Default How fast are the really fast jet boats?

Hey guys...I just bought a 1982 Sunkisst tunnel. I was told the boat had been 100mph with the guys other motor but it went 84 on the gps with the current engine I got with the boat. The engine is gone now and I am in the process of building a turbo big block with the C&S blow thru carb setup. People are telling me around here that jet boats can't go 100 but I see some fast ones on this site. How fast are the ones that really kick butt? Here is a pic of mine....

A lot of jet boats going well over 100mph. It takes more than hp though, you will need pump work and the right set up for your boat. Nicelooking ride, good luck

Cool looking boat. That hull would not be my first choice for serious power.

A QE jet runs in the 130's most are not running near full out.

Before you start adding power there is plenty of speed in the pump and intake, set back, etc.

The guy I bought the boat from knows his stuff. He has been messing with jetboats for 40 plus years. I think it was pretty much dialed in to go 84 mph with the engine that was in it. The motor is gone and I am hanging a turbo so we will see what happens. The best pump guy in the area lives 3 miles from me so I can get help with that part. Just curious... It has a stainless AB impeller and went 5800 rpm with about 700hp. What will it spin to with say 1300 hp turbo power? Trial and error I guess.

i did a quick look at this chart & i guess roughly 7800 rpm+/_?. someone may have a chart for that hp or you can draw a phantom line & measure to get closer on est.

I know that boat you got it from Ricky Sanchez, he knows his stuff. Be safe in that boat bro! It's was a mid 80 mph boat and has been faster, from what I remember. It's one if the nicest boats I've ever seen.

My short cp bottom mantra 16ft tunnel with twin turbo ls does 110+ your goal of 100 is gna be easily done on pumpgas if youre doin a tt bbc. Id do a 408ls tt deal if i were you, lighter power and wld push your hull well over 110 i wld think.

Tom, you & Shane need to give it a go and see if that LS of your can handle the BBC.
