    Default Inspection of u joint

    I have a three point engine mount in my boat and there's a cover over the u-joint. Can I remove this cover and inspect the condition of the u-joint? There is a rattling sound at idle, I read the Berkley book and basically it says u joint is probably it, but I was wondering about the rear bearing how often do those go bad and do they make a rattling sound?

    Does the noise dissappear when you raise the RPMS from idle ?

    Initially but then it starts rattle again when I hold it steady but slightly quieter

    Is this in or out of the water? They tend to rattle when not loaded, at least in my experience. When the jet bearing goes it's usually a continuous growl or whine.

    Assuming its common driveline rattle , its a combination of looseness in the shaft male splines, driveline female splines and camshaft lope if the noise goes away above idle with impeller loaded its not likely and issue to concern ..

    Ok. Probably will not worry. Can it be inspected without pulling motor?

    Yes , coming with the rest .. re inspecting the driveline IF you have a access plate on the rear mount housing you may be able to reach in and "manipulate" the double U joint abit ... the only real way to check is to pull it out

    Are you saying Males are looser the Females?
