Default Gotta 3 point mount and want a Jetaway.

How far forward will I have to move my engine. Would I be able to change to stringer mount and not have to move the engine?

You'll want to go to rail kit or some sort of 4 point mount

Where would one find a rear stringer mount/bellhousing for a SBC?

I like to know my motor is gonna start before I get to the ramp. Easier to work on when it's near my toolbox.

While I can certainly agree with the fact that it's nice that a jet away allows for convenient dry starts they are pretty expensive. I think new ones go for $1400+/- and you can find used ones for around $1000.

What about customizing your drive line set up so that it can be taken apart easily to allow for dry starts without the jet drive engaged?Or is the safety factor a jet away provides also part of the reason for your inquiry?

To answer your original question, I think the answer is the motor would probably have to move up to 6" forward depending on where it's located today.

I'm not really worried about safety. I like the convenience factor as I am pushing 60 and the old back ain't what it used to be. I do all my own wrenching on everything I own.

Will a jetaway work with a three point?

My 2 cts: Forget the jet-away. Fire it up dry for a few seconds. Been doing it for 25 years (for the same reason as you) without issue. Having said that, there are definitely two camps of thought on this. Submitted with all due respect to others who might have a different experience or opinion....

I'm not a fan of running the engine with the pump hooked up but I think if your doin it just to see if it will start for a sec or 2 you should be fine. You will have to ditch the 3 point mount and goto a rail kit of sum sort with a 4 point mount. To add a ratchet the engine will have to be moved forward atleast 4".

After a little thought I may want to reconsider. It is an aluminum fishing boat called a Shoal Runner Predator. A rail mount system would transfer more engine noise to the 3/16 hull possibly scaring the fish.

I gotta have a jetaway. I'll probably make my own plates and have a friend anodized them as there are a fowl rewards for being old like knowing people.
