Default Remembering the Classic Boat Beach Bash

O.k. due to some requests I'm going to try to get this started. I found pictures from the years 2002 and 2005. I think the rest of them went with a failed hard drive or two. I need to resize the whole batch and get them hosted so I'll add them in later. Maybe some of the guys that have some ready to go can put em to get the ball rolling?

One of the coolest things about the CBBB for those of us who had kids was that it was fun for them too. My son Tyler in the last picture won two wake boards and a nice water ski participating in the rootbeer chug three years running. There were other events for the kids to partake in and the whole deal was kid friendly. The event had some very generous sponsors and great prizes.

When I die I want to go nice and peaceful in my sleep like Grandpa did, not screaming like the other passengers in His car.

I did a google to see if the brothers Lloyd still had their web site up with the pictures of the CBBB and came up empty. There was a link to a Truckin' mag article and the only picture left was this one...my old flattie. lol

I loved hangin' in the parking lot BS'ing, having a few cocktails until the wee hours. Of course, this was back before the indians realized they didn't make money from us in the parking lot and clamped down. I now call it "the good old days".

Why exactly did this yearly event stop? I heard it had something with the AVI not wanting the liabilty or something...

I don't think it had anything to do with the Casino. Although they (the casino) could've been more receptive, I don't think it had anything to do with the event closing down. If that were true they could've just moved it to another location and kept going.

Can't say for sure, but I believe the brothers called it quits for a couple different reasons. The thing had gotten really big and the thought was that they could be held responsible if someone were to get drunk, stupid, hurt and/or killed while at the event they were hosting. Whether that's true or not I don't know.

If that were the case it's pretty easy to guess why they wanted out. I don't know of anybody that would want to be held responsible for a couple hundred + people.

There was a boat that had gotten destroyed one year too. Fortunately nobody got hurt, but I think it was an eye opener. Not saying there was any malfeasance involved, but still an attention getter for all.

Also remember a fist fight on the beach following a race between a couple guys. One of them (I believe uninvited and just showed up) was pretty cocky and drunk, got beat and didn't like it much. I think there may have been some money bet and not paid, thus the fist fight. I raced him and beat him just previous to the fight, and although he was unhappy nothing came of it. Then again, we had just raced for the hell of it and no money was bet or needed to be collected afterwards.

Bottom line is, that kinda shit just doesn't fly when there are kids all around.

Another thing was the amount of work that it took to do this deal. They spent a lot of time preparing for it, and it showed. Everything was very well planned out and it all flowed very nicely. I had been to a couple events that were planned by professionals prior to this, and the brothers and their women did just as good a job as the pros IMO.

disclaimer: This is all just speculation on my part with regards as to why the thing stopped.

I would bet that's pretty good speculation though.
