Default Hey BP. got a question for ya.

I once heard that Q/E is now considered a "Pro" class and would be included in the TV time. I haven't seen any Q/E on the Lucas Oil Drag boat racing program on MAVTV. How come?

Plenty of fuelers and TAF. I could care less about the fuelers, TAF is entertaining sometimes. If they had Q/E or any of the open boats on TV I would record every one of them.

Yes im a open boat guy, but last time i checked so where 99% of all the boaters in the country. It seems like a way bigger TV market. Whats the deal???????

If you had attended the Lucas oil general membership meeting you would have been told that QE is a TV class and would be filmed at all of the national events. This year they have televised one event for sure. It had Mike and Kjell going rounds and Mike RED LITE in the final against Kjell. QE is quickly becoming one of the largest classes as well as being a fan favorite. Oh by the way WE won High Points Div. 1 in Lucas this past year.

I don't know they have figured out how to fit everything into one program. I've seen TFH, TAF, and QE lumped together on TV. I've also seen a complete separate show for Pro Mod. This past year was horrible for Lucas as far as weather delays were concerned. They need a full completed race to get there program in on TV.

Greg, thanks for the info. I wish I could have attended, but I was busy building parts for my good buddies up in norco. They where up my a$$ to get the parts! Red-Light-Mike did a great job in 2014. Hats off to the team!

Kjell, I understand the problem with weather and all. I hope they can film full programs in 2105. With that being said! Film all the "average Joes" as well and make a killer entertaining program something that the masses can relate to. I have watched 3 wheelers go rounds on MAV. I mean COME ON!

Anyhow BP, I will take this as a direct FU by not responding!

sorry andy. I've been busy all day. what greg and kjel said pretty much sums it up what was stated at the meeting. I know there were a handful of shows broadcast with QE. from the firebird opener last year to the wf's. the only reason I know that is because certain individuals sent me stills . don't have mav tv here, so I don't see it anyway. if I want to watch it, I still have several old ihba shows saved on the dvr. interviews with john hass, ermshar, brutus utter. and the best one, where they showed TE and PE in marble falls - steve prewitt wanting to beat jeff vail's ass. that was classic. I keep emailing suddenlink but no mav tv for now. I'd break down and change providers, but I just don't want to lose those old shows yet.
also, pro outlaw will be a tv class this year. people always bring up televising open boats at those meetings for years. at least show final rounds.

I agree with you Bob and thanks for responding. Final rounds would be great and I'm drooling for some TE PE action on TV. American Real is the slogan for MAV/Lucas, I can't think of anything more real than that.

i remember several years ago at a race in marble falls, they told us they were going to film PE, TE, ME, SE. for a dedicated sportsman show. so you'd go make a pass, come out, get all ready and wait for the interview, get interviewed for a minute, then do it again. I ended up winning the ME final (by .004). then waited patiently until the show aired. PE and TE only. so I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for any of this stuff anymore. no matter who you talk to about it, somebody else makes the decisions. it was good they at least had the PE/TE thing, and prewitt was a star.
the way I kind of look at it any more, if LO has shows, and the ratings are good like they say they are, it's good for the sport and is allowing a pretty good budget to keep going. total purse for each LO national event this year is $150k, which is way beyond anything that existed even 5 years ago. so that's a good thing. nhra and nascar would be nothing like what they are without tv. and both have occasional shows of their lower levels of competition. divisional or arca. but neither of those rate anywhere near the main shows, and just a guess, that's the same mentality of capsule vs open boat tv. but without showing at least a few seconds of open boat stuff, the average viewer wouldn't know it exists in the same program. so tossing some open boat stuff in would obviously be beneficial to the sport.
some time back, a pm guy made a statement that pm was "the backbone" of the sport. which is idiotic. as you might guess, I took strong exception to that. the backbone of the sport, as well as nhra or nascar, is at the grass roots level.

BP...Direct TV has MAV-TV instead of Lucy and Andy Griffith.

you hit the nail on the head here Bob.

I think the sport would benifit from televising the brackets. I could see guys watching with their river or lake hot rod in the garage thinking, " I could do that!" and sign up at the next local event.

The sportsmen are the backbone. No doubt.

That's what got me started. Sitting in the beer garder in SD watching RR run after TF. I thought "I could keep up with these guys".

Not to burst your bubble but with little experience I've had with the TV end of the business, my producer had NO desire to film the lower classes. When He would go out and try to sell the show to the sponsors and all they wanted was the thrill and excitement of the TFH, TAH, TAF, and now Pro Mod. Towards the end of the ESPN TV shows I was able to steal a couple of minutes while doing the shows and atleast show the winners of each category with there faces and boats. Like Bob said it's not like Lucas hasn't heard this pitch before.

I think times are changing. What year was it when you had ESPN at the track? With all this "reality" TV going you would think there is a place for some sportsman racing. I dont know. F'em

don't know if times changing has anything to do with it. the difference now is the corporation that runs the dragboat series is the same corporation that runs the production company, which is the same corporation that owns and operates the tv station. that tv station sells advertising based on ratings. at some level that is way beyond you or me, somebody determines open boats either have not, or will not, draw the ratings the top capsule classes do. whoever is making those decisions knows a helluva lot more about the cbr than you or I would.

nevertheless, doubt it would kill them to give up 1 minute to show the sportsmen finals. and that could be a big deal...
