Default Going to look at a boat in a couple of days.

    Hello all,
many of you have been helping me along with my rebuilding of my '77 Cheetah jet boat. I Started with replacing the floor and moving through the boat and buying LOTS of parts! Well, I wanted to make a push to get this thing on the water and really started to add up what I needed to finish this thing and it was a lot! I have grown tired of perpetually working on projects! I just wanted to go buy a boat that is turn key! So, I have landed on a couple of boats that I really like. They are two VERY different boats that would both be very enjoyable for different reasons. I live in Flagstaff, AZ, so we are a couple of hours from Pleasant, a couple of hours from Lake Powell, a few hours from Havasu, Mead, Mojave and The River! So, here are the boats That I've narrowed my search down to:

The first four and last are of a '98 21' Silhouette tunnel hull, w/ carbureted 454, split bowl Berkeley w/ hydraulic diverter. This boat would be fun with the family, great on the river, and not so great I'm thinking on the bigger lakes like Powell! I like this boat quite a bit.

The 5th-9th pictures are of a '99 23' (23'6") Eliminator Eagle. This boat has a fuel injected 454, I/O. It's quite a bit bigger and would do great in the bigger lakes. Probably faster and more fuel efficient? It's about $4K more. Super clean and looks to be very well taken care of!

I am am trying to choose between the two. I've always loved jet drives but the Eliminator is winning out right now, I think. I wanted to ask this in the jet section to see if there are any clear advantages to the 21' Silhouette jet drive? I was thinking easier to work on if the engine/pump had a catastrophic failure. More River friendly, but most of our boating will be on lakes. Throwing a big rooster tail I would think would never get old! How is the quality on these Silhouette boats? How do they do in big lakes? What about with handling the dreaded tour boat wakes at Powell? Also, is there anything in particular to look for when I go look at it? Special areas of concern to Look for rot, cracks or other stress or age related issues?

I'm trying to choose what boat would suit my family's needs the best and be the most enjoyable for us! Either will be a blast, I know! Just two different styles of boats! I do like that we could let our two year old son nap down in the cuddy cabin of the eliminator! But, could take less friends, too! I know that I am the one that needs to determine which boat to buy, but I like to hear the perspective of others! It helps me think of more pros and cons!

    Thanks for for any advice/guidance!

Nice boats. Very different from each other.
Parking at the beach, ease of access, load, unload, cool lounger seats room to move etc =tunnel

Stay in the boat all day, or dock it, rougher water, hard to load your stuff, Jump in water or walk the bow
    to access beach=other boat

which do you do more of and which the wife likes??

Don't know much about that type of 21' tunnel, but if it rides anything like a Daytona 21' or Liberator 21' tunnel then it will ride just as good as the bigger V.
I use to take mine to Havasu all the time with no problems but it did have a OB on the back so i would assume it would stay hooked up better then a jet in the rough stuff.

    Just an opinion.

Ease of maintenance, cool factor, faster, ability to run in shallower water........... I'd go with the jet.

Lake Powell, Havasu, Mead, Mojave and The River!
If you plan to run on these lakes I'd go with the Eagle. You'll be glad you've got the freeboard on Havasu, Powell, and Mead (and the river if Parker Strip).

I like jets..................a lot, but I run on smooth water 90% of the time.
