    Default New guy here......

Hello everyone, I am Chris "newbie" here. It looks as though I am a LONG way from yall's location. I am over here in the FL panhandle around Destin. I don't have a boat yet (mostly because of my lack of knowledge in it) but since I moved here I have wanted one. One that is loud, fast, flashy and affordable for me. Well after about two mins. research I found, Donzi, Scarrab, Cigarette, Fountain are all but affordable in so many ways!!! So I am wanting to go this route. 2 problems though, I don't really know what exactly to get and I have to deal with saltwater. I want a jet boat for the waterway here NOT for open water. The bay is pretty calm for the most part and I would mostly be sitting still anyway. I haven't seen really any jetboats out here so I am looking to yall for info. Any opinions you have on where to start out is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Chris
Oh and yall have some pretty BA boats on here!!!!!

    Welcome! Thanks for serving!

Do a lot of reading and ask yourself what you expect out of your boat/what are you going to use it for?

Hey Chris ... as Rod said, ask a lot of questions ... and for your first jet, just get one and use the crap out of it.

A larger/heavier hull would work better in the bay and on the intercoastal waterway IMO.

You should be able to find something out there. Go to dragboatcity.com , those guys are located down in Ft. Myers, FL ... but do classified adds for boats. They will have a line on something for you.

You can get into something pretty cheap, I would go for a day crusier for your first ride ... especially if you plan on boating where you say you are instead of smaller lakes.

Ask questions and for help, look up the name "hawaiianjet" and read his threads. While he was kind of a pain in the ass with his questions from time to time, he had humor in his posts and now you see a thread asking where he's been for the past couple of weeks.

Don't take sarcasim seriously here, we are all mostly friends and give each other a hard time.

    Welcome to the boards.

Don't all boats in florida have the small block chevy in the back with the big fan....and skim over the top of weeds? LOL j/k.

You should be able to find a great boat for dirt cheap..especially if you were considering a Donzi..or boats of that nature. Keep it simple, and don't stress the salt water too much. I"m sure there's plenty of people on here who run their equipment in salt...just be handy with the hose. My boat's been out in long beach near the queen mary on several occasions, you couldn't tell from lookin at it! *the trailer never went int he salt though*

So, good luck!....and don't try to go faster than anyone on here..just gonna be headache and shyt talkin goin ur way! haha.

    Chris,

Identify the need and use. Are your interwaterways anything like our large lakes where lots of free-board is needed or can you use a boat that's low to the water. The other question is how fast do you want to go ?

You have lots of choices from Vee's to tunnels, good luck on your quest. Oh, are you looking for something like an 18' or 21'.

Going fast is only half the fun ... what you make go
    fast is the other half.

    1. Ask a ton of questions.......learn as much as possible

2.Shop around, then shop around some more..... tons of good deals on jets all over the country

3 call someone like Jetboat performance and talk to them and get a good lesson on what to look for and what to avoid....

Don't buy a project boat unless you have a bunch of money you want to throw into the wind...

Keep in mind. Winter/fall is the best time to buy typically.
