Default just bought my first jet boat

Hi guys i just bought a 1997 21ft california cool jet boat i have ran it twice and i have a few question. Some guidance really it has a 330hp marine power 454 and at-309 pump. the exhaust manifold are rusted, rotten and leaking so i want to replace them with either lightning headers or eddie marine exhaust manifolds. anyone have any opinions of these or ran them on their boat. also i was thinking of putting my holley 850 and a performer air gap manifold. i gps the boat at 51mph any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

I would take the exhaust off and see if it can be fixed. I would leave motor alone this summer, enjoy it. have the jet looked at. The worst thing for a boater, is to think you did something for it to perform better, then it loses it's dependability. It's never going to be a river rocket, making it as reliable as you can would be my first choice.

Nice ride! Stan Mosqua (sp?) is still around in Hemet, he built the California Cool boats after Crusader. His shop is just down the street from where we are building trailers.... I would definitely check with Bob at Dana Marine in Anaheim. They make a very nice BBC system. Good luck!

Those manifolds are aluminum and perform very well. Save your coin and fix what you have.

At 51 mph you're right where it should be with this set up. I've had several jets and my last one, 21' Cobra was similar to yours. It topped out at 55.

Pick the exhaust you like, Eddie's are good & so are the Dana's, I had Dana's on a 21' Eliminator and liked them. I personally wouldn't do anything else to the engine unless you were going to pull it and go through everything. The Marine power engine in my Cobra was very reliable as a stock engine.

    Enjoy

A buddy of mine bought a jet like that. He dumped a truck load of money into a 540cuin engine and another load of money into the pump. If I remember correctly he's in the 570hp and 600ftlbs range. He runs 63mph on gps. Reliability and fuel consumption were a huge sacrifice.
I'd buy another set of stock exhaust manifolds if needed and put the $2k you'd spend on them into a few more river trips.

    Congrats on the boat!!
Looks like itd be a wet running boat, no rideplate or droop.thatd be worth alot of performance

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

I would run the Eddie Thunder Exhaust on your deal. Simple plumbing great performance and priced well.

I have a set of EMI thunder manifolds and risers in great condition that have been pressure tested for $850.00 plus the ride
