Default 1968 IMP Aztec (New boat owner)

Just recently bought this boat from a friend. Don't know much about it, but it seems pretty unique. Maybe someone can educate me. My friend said it does about 40mph at 4500rpm. He is not sure if it is getting WOT so I will check into it. Just trying to learn what I can about it.

    327 with Berk pump
    Edelbrock log headers
    Edelbrock risers
    Edelbrock intake
    Holley 600 carb
    Mallory distributor
    Through hull exhuast
    Place diverter

Thanks for the positive response. I was thinking about doing a little cam, vortec heads, and updated intake manifold just to give it a little more. 50mph would be nice to see. I do not know if that is realistic, but would be nice. Any more background on the boat is welcomed.

Thanks. I am looking forward to some warmer weather. The Midwest isn't very consistent when it comes to weather conditions.

IMP = Iola Molded Plastics. Built heavy and handle the rough very we'll. Aztec is a 20'r if I recall. SBC and a squirt drive isn't ever gonna be fast but that hardtop is rare and in good condition.

I really wouldn't spend any money trying to make it go faster...just add some cocktail holders and enjoy some early evening cocktail cruises.

I know it won't ever be fast. I guess I was just looking for a little more sound out of it. Nothing crazy. It is 20ft. That is great info. I didn't know what IMP stood for.

If you are going to do anything, your plans should include a larger displacement small block, with the appropriate cam etc. Everything from this engine should bolt up. (Unless you go to Vortec heads, where you would need a new intake)

I had considered that. 400 small block would be cool. I have been doing a bunch of reading on this site. It would be next season before I did anything. Might just freshen up the 327. Keep the nostalgia of the boat.

Iola, Kansas was the birthplace of your boat. IMPs made from about 17' to 23'.

Old family friend had one same colors as yours, without the hardtop and an OMC out drive coupled to a 307 SBC. Didn't run too much faster, maybe 45 mph.

If this is your first jet drive, know that the boat will only turn while under power. In a panic situation, normal response is to get out the throttle...that'll make the boat straighten out...turn hard and throttle harder to get around and thru whatever pops up in front of you.

Thanks for your advice. I grew up at Lake of the Ozarks. Been on the water a long time. Friend had a SeaDoo Speedster that we ran around in all the time. I live in Burlington, KS now. I didn't realize it was made so close to where I am. The boat spent most of its life on Perry lake near Lawrence, KS. My buddy said that most of these boats came with that OMC setup and to steer clear of them. This will be my first boat since my childhood so I am pumped.
