    Default Big Block Ford Help

Does anybody out there run a BBF with Blue Thunder Heads and Chevy Exhaust?

    My question is:

What's the overall width of the motor?

I would like to change exhaust and heads, but would still like to keep the jump seats next to the motor.

    Thanks in advance.

    Mike

    Mike,

Danhercules took those exact dimensions while his longblock was on a stand in our shop, so you might want to check with him. He'll probably see this thread and post the numbers.

What are you building that requires BT heads and what hp are you targeting? Certainly they can't be for the boat in your avatar (no I'm not poking fun at your boat; I'm serious and wanting to help).

I measured for Dan awhile back(last year ??). The engine is out of the boat right now for winter storage. I'll measure tomorrow and let you know the width at the bottom corner of the Valve Covers. That's the widest part.

My goal is to change the log exhaust to a more efficient exhaust. The motor that's in the boat (avator) is going on 17 years. When I go to rebuild it, just want to update it without losing my two jump seats next to the motor. Not looking for a lot of power just efficiency as a jet boat can get. The Blue Thunder heads offer a chevy flange. I know you can buy an after market flange to fit Chevy exhaust, but that widens the motor. This is why I come to you guys, so I can get some ideas.

    Thanks

    Mike

That seems like an awful lot of money to spend just to get Chevy exhaust. I'm pretty sure they make better exhaust than logs for Fords too.

Personally, I don't think the heads are the issue, it's the new exhaust.

3 winters ago, I switched from logs to Lightning headers on a Chevy, and the motor is at least 4" wider overall (minimum 2: each side) than the logs were.

I have engine bay completely accross the back, so no issue with jump seats, but it stopped me from putting my main cooler next to the engine out of the way where it had gone for 25 years. (steel-sided coleman) Original, it JUST fit, with the headers, no.

How about buying the Ford thru-transom headers that are in the spam section?

Myself, I went ahead and bought the adapters and had Paul blend them with the heads.
I wake up and I piss excellence.

The Heads measure 25" across at the widest point right below the Exhaust ports. Hope that helps.

I would have to agree with dmontzsta with this one. If your looking to buy these heads to switch over to have chevy headers way to exspensive to do. Just my .02. The width is 25" from header flange to header flange
