    Default Stuck Bolt Removal

I figured I would just put this in its own thread (pun intended) for people having problems with stuck fasteners that need Kroil, PB Blaster or any other penetrating thread releasing agent to remove a frozen fastener that just doesnt want to come loose.

"The April/May 2007 edition of Machinist's Workshop did a test of penetrating oils where they measured the force required to loosen rusty test devices. Buy the issue if you want to see how they did the test. The results reported were interesting. The lower the number of pounds the better. Mighty interesting results for simple acetone and tranny fluid!

Penetrating oil . Average load .. Price per fluid ounce
    None ................. 516 pounds .
    WD-40 .............. 238 pounds .. $0.25
    PB Blaster ......... 214 pounds .. $0.35
    Liquid Wrench ... 127 pounds .. $0.21
    ATF-Acetone mix.. 53 pounds .. $0.10

That is very intersting, and good info too.

I haven't tried it yet but I was told by somebody older than me that warming the bolt and putting wax on the threads to melt is the best way and is less messy.

I haven`t tried the warming and wax, but I have used the heat it with a torch and shoot it with penetrating oil. same basic theory as wax, but the oil cools it faster then wax would. Seems to work in some cases......if not its time for the reverse drill bits

i've had some luck with a reverse drill bit..not just the drill, but the bit's cut in reverse..kind of pulls the bolts out. but i don't know about your situation if it's all galled up

    Yea, THAT truly sucks.
You won't drill an extractor out without carbide.
