    Default Ultra open bow handling.

My '96 ultra 21' open bow handles like shit. It wants to bow steer at speeds over 40mph and gets real ugly if you stand on it and let off the gas. It had a skag on it, but has been broken off. Anyone else have an Ultra with the same issue? Anyone know if the skag came stock on these?

I don't know if you have a diverter... if not, get one. Helps my 21 open bow quite a bit, but one thing to consider.... it takes a lot of horsepower to lift the bow and keep it there. Why? Weight. My upholstery is quite heavy, so I moved EVERYTHING I could out of the bow (I have bow storage). The lighter you can make it, the better and transfer the weight to stern to balance it on shutdown.

I have a diverter and it doesn't help. Actually at cruising speed it does better with two people up front. I have the HP to carry the nose, guess it's more the shut down I'm more concerned about.

So it bow steers LESS with 2 people (weight in the bow), but handles badly above 40? Only other thing I can think of that will do anything close to that is overloading the intake lifting the keel on shutdown. You running a loader and/or ride plate?

I have a 92 ultra, setback pump shoe ride plate from factory.i took the rudder off was tired of hitting my shins on it,only thing I noticed with that was steering while idling.i do not have a droop on mine but it handles pretty good with out it,just takes a little diverter to get nose up.ive got to friends with the same boat that had similar problems as you, they installed the droop and it handled a lot better.i believe they have the e pump, mine is a standard American turbine pump

Mine also has an E pump, sound like that could be the problem. I have everything to install a regular dominator, just trying to limp by this summer with what I have. I'll try a droop and see what it does.
The skag I was talking about is 48" in front of the intake, not a rudder.
