    Default 1310 vs 1350 Driveline

At what point do you need a 1350 drive line? The ones I have seen measure 7.5-8" oal. I measure 7 3/16" from pto to 3/16 before snap ring on jetaway. Is it possible to get a 1350 in this length or will motor need to move forward to accept shaft?

heres some information that may be helpfull, generally the mounting system and engine setup (3 point/four point/rail kit/pump set back/ engine moved forward etc ) will dictate driven line length

Drive line component selection is largely determined by the maximum torque that it must resist. In the case of a high powered drag car the U joints must be able to handle the engine torque times the gear ratio in the lowest gear. For example if a race engine had a maximum torque of 800 lb-ft and a 1st gear ratio of 3:1 the torque multiplication would result in 2400 lb-ft applied to the U joints in the drive shaft. That's a lot of torque and a highly capable U joint would be recommended (ie; 1350 series). That same engine in a jet boat that does not have a transmission would only impart 800 lb-ft of torque to the U joints in which case a 1310 U joint would be sufficient. Having said that, U joint selection is largely determined by the gut feel of the person doing the component selection and usually results in over kill...
Obviously if you have an engine capable of 2400 or more lb-ft of torque your drive line selection would go to the most capable U joints.

    My opinion, yours may vary...
