Default Stringers.. Or lack there of, 21ft sleekcraft stringer advice..

Alright, SO Digging deeper into my 21ft sleekcraft diplomat DT mod tunnel, I found a bad stringer, down the center of the boat, as i cut the floor out and removed it i fount that the stringer was made of 2 pieces of plywood stapled together and glassed on with 1 layer of mat, now my problem.. most mod v tunnel hulls have 2 stringers on the tops of the tunnels, mine has none the motor is mounted to the floor with mercruiser mounts (bbc 502). My buddy said my best bet would be to run 2 stringers down the center insides of the tunnel from the back of the boat and one down the center of the boat from the motor forward.. has anyone with a similar boat run across this issue, I wanna fix it right, hit me up with some possible solutions.. or if anyone knows someone who worked for sleek in the late 80s early 90s let me know how to contact them. The center stringer looked more like a floor support than anything else. but if i am going to add stringers i want to do it right. any help appreciated thanks

I have a sst and am in the same boat PO ran seat bolt thru bottom and filled center with water floor now rotten so for temp I put a sheet of alum diamont plate 1/16" down the center until I can do stringers on top of tunnel and use motor rails, the pics are of my temp( or perment ) motor rails if you just want to repair floor as a tunnel is strong enough not to need them

Sadly, I am aware of this. We raced for Bruce (BFJ) and I briefly worked for Bruce building a sports car he thought would save the company (second fuel crisis). I had a long term customer of my own from Texas who ordered an SST into which we were putting a 1400 HP twin turbo 496 (my build). I went by the factory to check on progress and found the rigger bolting the engine mounts through the top of the tunnel. There was no re-enforcement of wood, fiberglass -nothing. So your boat may have been built later since you apparently had wood, but that may have been worse since wood compresses and even AA Marine can absorb moisture and eventually the wood self destructs. So on Mothers Day I went to the shop and laided up .5" solid fiberglass on the top of the tunnel and re-installed the engine. After that I was a short timer even though Bruce and I were very good friends to the end. The center pod keel stringer, just cut it out and replace, you won't live long enough to do it again.
