    Default Winterizing

    This is the first time winterizing my 460/Berkeley and would appreciate some guidance on the proper procedure. I want to make sure I know the right way to do this. Any help is appreciated.

    I usually pull the hoses and block plugs at the lake on our last trip of the season, let everything drain as I drive home (about 85mi). Have a nail or small screwdriver ready to break out the sand/crud that will likely be jammed in the block drain holes (and if doing it this way, be careful, that water is HOT!). When I bought mine, the PO had so much crud built up I had to use a ratchet and sheetmetal screw to get through it before she would drain; sh!t was like cement. Fogging, oil change, greasing the bearing, filling the rear bushing oil are all options. Vacuum out the remaining water from the bilge and disconnect the battery or plug in the tender and she's good to go. I'll also usually blow out any remaining water from the exhaust water jackets with compressed air.

    Thanks. What kind of block plugs do you use? I was thinking about rubber expansion plugs to make it easier next season.

    I believe the PLUGS being talked about are small brass threaded pipe plugs, 5/16 or 3/8 not really sure on the size. If you have log style exhaust they might be hard to get to.
    I think there is just 1 on each side.
