The NJBA is having the annual rules change submittal process ending at the end of the September race, if you want to see the bad calls fixed, submit your solution/suggestion for vote.
Here’s my take
There is one section I think is a bad call because it doesn’t fix the onetime speeding allowance for records for boats that exceed the legal speed, (CAPSULE SECTION 14)
Any boat that exceeds the speed limit in ELIMINATION should be out of competition and not allowed to continue with penalties as described in the May Safety rules in place.
A boat that exceeds their legal speed limit in qualification should be penalized minus 50 points and qualifying last place, not awarded point.
The way I see it to fix these bad calls are to delete section 14 and subsections that contain the one time over the speed clause, and repeal part of the NEW SAFETY RULE implemented May 2015 that allows them to continue in competition if they exceeding speed limit in rounds without points.
The NEW SAFETY RULE that should have fixed section 14, but did not, it replace the bad call of Section 14 with another bad call with loopholes for points.
Retain the 1000’ course for the pro categories that are in place.
I think this is the way to fix the loopholes without allowing special provisions.
I think to make the rules for controlled speed to be fair and no loopholes, they should be changed to read :
RULES REQUIRING BOATS TO HAVE A SAFETY CAPSULE
All jet driven boats and prop driven flat bottom boats that run 145 M.P.H. or faster, must have an N.J.B.A. approved safety capsule installed. All prop driven Hydro boats that run 165 M.P.H. or faster, Must have an N.J.B.A. approved safety capsule installed.
a. The first time a boat runs a speed (M.P.H.) that requires it to have a capsule, the owner and driver will
Receive a warning from the Race Director.
b. The second time a boat runs a speed (M.P.H.) at the same event that requires it to have a capsule,
the boat will be disqualified from the category and penalized minus 50 points in that category.
C. Boats that exceed the speed limit twice in one event will be issued a letter of reprimand from the NJBA detailing the actions of the board to address the exceeding speed limit with one or all of the following penalties:
1. First time exceeding the speed limit during qualifying runs: penalized minus 25 point.
2. Second time exceeding the speed limit during qualifying runs at the same event: penalized minus 50 points and placed at the bottom as did not qualify.
1. First time exceeding the speed limit during eliminations runs at the same event as qualifying sanction in 1&2; the first or worst rules will apply.
TFH, TAH, TAF, Prom Mod, BGJ, and UBF will run a 1000 foot course.
