I had a placecraft deck Jet. great party boat! If you want to do alot of towing, coming up on plane is a a fight. it takes some horsepower! But great boat at speeds! With a pump gas blown 509... 92 mph. with a 502..502 ran 71 mph AA impeller. Had a problem with the pump wanting to push the pump berrings out. Its a lot of wieght to get moving for a jet.

Did The Placecraft 23 Deck Not Give A Descent Wake At 15 To 20 Mph, Or Did The Kids Just Want A True Wakeboard Boat ???????

Not much wake... but the thing I hated was how hard the boat had to work to get out of the hole each time.

I have a 22' Placecraft Deck , #6 out of the mold with 502 BB Chevy , Legend pump. I'm the original owner coming up on 10 years. It's a great boat , people family friendly. With a jet don't go under 500 HP many were unhappy with less. Pulling wakeboarders with this boat is a bit of a challenge as it's coming off plane at 18MPH. Mine doesn't have the trim tabs that would help that issue, Ron and Scott are great to work with and I'm sure you will like the new 23'.
If you can pull it off the ideal engine would be the new LSX 454 crate motor. Weighs 400 lbs less than a BB Chevy and makes 620 HP 600 lbs of torque. About $15k and then add another $5k to get it in the boat

Congrats! I heard the 496HO was not a good engine for a jet application. Or di you decide to go I/O?

Good luck on the build, I have two friends that have the 23'. My other buddy has one of the two 28' decks built. They make nice boats, they f'd my buddy with his 28' though.

Thanks For The Input. I Wanted The 502 But They No Longer Warrenty Them. Plus I Like The Fuel Injection. Time Will Tell, But It Is A Engine That They Recommend With There Jet Set Ups. They Were Nice Enough That If I Was Unhappy With The Set Up That They Will Do Whatever It Takes To Make Me Happy. I Still Have My 38' Donzi, So Going To A River Boat Will Have Its Challenges But With A New Place At The River, In My Opion This Was One Of The Nicest Looking Family Boats. Plus I Wanted A Cat.........

Call them ASAP and upgrade to the merc racing 525. If you want factory power its the way to go. I think that 496 will have a short life in front of a jet and the power SUCKS.
