Hodwy! Picked up my first jet boat at the end of last summer. It is an 18' Cougar (eliminator knockoff), with a N/a BBC. I took the boat out twice than noticed grease coming from the thrust bearing housing, after some reading I opted to use this for premis of a rebuild.
Got it appart' turns out its got a beat up berkeley cast A cut impeller.
The guy at the local shop is trying to sell me on a Tenzaloy impeller but I cant seem to find any information on them anywhere?
What do you guys reccomend?
Engine specs are
BBC 468 10.5:1
comp 292h cam
high rise mani
Welcome to the boards and the wonderful world of jet boats. I believe tensalloy is an alum. aggressor imp. (I'm not certain if other mfg. used that particular material combo) Cut size- a,b,c etc. determines engine rpm range. You want to cut the impeller to the rpm band of the engine to maximize engine power use. From your engine build specs listed it sounds like you are in the max. h.p. range of all alum. impellers and would likely be wise to choose a mag/bronze or stainless steel imp. Cost difference will be several hundred dollars. The stainless can be welded (minor) repaired if necessary, the mag/br. not so much. I hope this helps. Have any pics. of your new hot rod boat?
