    Default Oil Pressure Gauge

When I put my Beede gauges in the boat, I also put a brand new sender from the auto parts store in the block also, but the gauge does not work. It "zeros" out when I put power to the gauge but does nothing while the engine is running. Is it possible that the gauge is bad or could it be the sender? I just figured I couldn't go wrong with a new sender. Thanks

Sounds like the wrong resistance sender to me.

Electric oil pressure, fuel level, water temp, and oil temp gauges can be checked to see if they're functional by tapping the sender wire to ground, the gauge's needle will jump ever time the wire is touched to ground. Touch the sender wire very briefly to ground as you may damage the gauge if held there too long. The gauge needs to have it's power and ground wires connected to power and ground in order for them to work.

The gauges are fully wired up. I'll check the gauge with the ground trick. Is there a special sender for marine applications with the correct resistance? Would anyone happen to know the correct resistance for a Beede gauge, and can it be had at an autoparts store? Thanks

You should be able to find it at the parts store. The resistance should be written in the instructions for the guages or maybe on line. If not on the back of the guage itself.

Cool. Thanks. I heard that they were discontiuing the line of gauges I have, which are the white face. I didn't find a whole lot of info on them. The RexMarine website doesn't have the resistance in the discription. I'll go talk to the parts guys. Thanks again

Most All New Guages Come With The Sender, You Have To Buy It That Way.

there was a time in the mid 90's when the boat builders started using beede gauge the gauge ended up needing beede sending units for a short time but then I believe the company changed there setings to work with the GM stuff.I say that becouse they still run that same gauge too day and all they do is plug in and play no new senders to install on the engines.Recheck your install of the wires.when you do the grounding check you will need the key on engine off.I know you are going to it at the back of the gauge if that checked out ok then the next check would be is at each sending unit on the engine. ground them one at a time to see if the gauge will max out.that way you will know if the wires are ok and going too the right one.you might need some one there to help watch the gauges.if you need help with the colors of standerd boating wires some where in this fourm there is a list that will make it easy to recheck if your not shur.good luck.

How much thread tape is on the sender?

Too much and the threads do not ground on the block properly, and the gauge won't work.

The sender worka as an "adjustable" ground point, bad contact it to the block, bad function.
