    Default possible stripped pumpshaft

seems my pump shaft has stripped out, or my u-joint from the motor stripped, hard to believe the spline would strip but i can spin pumpshaft freely with hand, and impeller does not spin with motor. its a 91 carrera elite, 454 hardin marine berkeley jet.. was wondering if pulling the motor is a better choice or pulling the pump. any feedback would be great thanks guys

More believable that the shaft broke at the impeller...I have the same hull with an I/O...It's a total basket case though...

just my .02 but I would pull out the packings and see if the shaft can be moved from there, or reach through the hand hole cover and spin the shaft and try to grab the shaft with channal locks and see if you can hold it from spinning! just a start!

Just curious, what pump? It's not a Hamilton is it? (Probably an American Turbine?)

Shaft stripping of the splines I consider HIGHLY improbable, broke in two much more likely.

The folks I have known who broke a u-joint, tore up a lot of stuff with it, and KNEW it.

I suspect it broke about the end of the splines.

Probably a smidge late too this thread but what makes you think this happened ? for example have you cranked the motor and observed if the impeller is turning , say thru the clean out ?? , is the driveline (ujoints) turning but not the impeller ? more symtoms and info would be helpfull etc just curious how you arrived at the diagnosis Trying to help Tom
