Default another cam and impeller question.

so I'm getting ready to install the motor out of my drag car (482ci, 14.8 to 1 comp, fully ported set of 990's, soild roller cam 276 284 @ .050 .756 .690 lift on a 108 lobe sep took off the single plain intake for a dual plain) into my jet boat. boat has a Berkeley jet with a AA impeller... I was wanting to put a smaller cam in it so I contacted A guy I know at Lunati and he was recommending just a little smaller cam (268 276 @.050 on a 114 lobe sep) so I told him what cam I had in it now and he told me to give it a try as it might work great just idle high... I worried about the motor not getting on the cam enough to turn that AA impeller... What do you guys think?

You need to have dry exhaust or make sure your water injection is working properly, definitely no through transom exhaust with that cam. If it were me I would run that cam and change the impeller if I needed more rpm. AB impeller sounds more like what you're looking for.

boat has nice through transom exhaust on it now with a 24x 25x @.050 now and all has been good. you thing it would get water in the motor? i really like that sleeper look with the motor cover on hehe...

What are you doing with the boat ? Go fast deal or lake boat ??
AA impelor is huge I'd think more like a nice detailed B from Chris would work good

Thats not a bad jet boat cam at all. A or ab or b impeller. Leani g torwards the b. The thru transom exhaust aint gonna work tho. Dry headers would be best or at least have a rpm switch for the water.

Would be good to know or estimate where the "drag car" motor makes HP and Torque in your quest to determine if you need a cam change and then the same estimation with the potential cam change and then give consideration to the impeller choice ...

Motor has 800ish hp. Car ran 10.1 3400lbs torque should be in the 600ish area. Never been on a dyno though. Boat is a lake boat but might hit the drags. I know this is not an ideal combination I just don't want it to get stuck at 4400 RPM and not move real well

    Why won't the exhaust work?

    Default Reversion

It might suck in some water at idle. I bet you'll see 56-5800 rpm.

We need to see the exhaust is it logs ... Reversion will pull water in the exhaust

You will only spin maybe maybe 5000 with a AA where do you live ?

I would put the single plain back on it. Run it with the cam thats in it. Trim the impeller to have it run where it makes power, bc ish.

No way you can run your cam or even the one you were thinking about running threw those logs
Also those logs of going to kill hp big time

just looked over your post why did you take the single plane manifold off ?

When i called Lunati I wanted to run an even small cam (255 262 @.050) and was going to to take off the 1150 dom and single plain as this is not a race boat and run the dual plain and smaller cam. He told me I shouldn't run that small of a cam... I'm pretty good and picking the right combos and building motors but i know in a jet boat its even more important to match up the impeller and power band. hens why im on here asking for more opinions. and im really not wanting to change my exhaust ... here the hole boat Click image for larger version.
