Default New to Jet Boats and have questions

I purchased a one owner 1971 horizon recently in Long Beach..the boat has 500 hours on it and was in a garage since 95..prior to garaging the boat the olds 455 and jacuzzi wj were rebuilt by hardin marine with receipts to prove it...i paid 1200 brought the boat back to phoenix spent 2 days buffing its gel coat back to its former glory and took it out on the lake for 2 days straight...now that i proved to myself it runs good and doesnt sink i sent out the upholstery out to be done and this week ill be updating the the paint. My questions are basically where would one go about finding a used place diverter and what (if anything) can i do to improve the performance of the boat. I gps'd a solid 57 mph on the water but didnt have a working tach so i was hesitant to stay at that speed for long knowing from experience in my cutlass that the 455 is a "revver". I am mechanically inclinded and turn wrenches for a living so im familiar with auto diesel etc. I keep reading about energizer kits etc and just plain tossing the wj for a berkeley....im hoping to increase top end a bit and be able to throw a mean rooster tail...any and all input is appreicated

Revver??? They don't live long at 5000 rpm without a lot of oil mods and a 10qt pan. The olds motor will soon not be enough for you, and if you attempt to up the power of the olds make 100% sure you have timinators Oldsmobile for boats article, lots of folks on here have it in PDF form. Went through this, now have big block chevy.

A used place diverter for a wj will be hard to find but they do pop up now and again. Try for the newer design as it seals better against the bowl.

A well built and maintained wj will run on par with Berks and others, treat the impeller like gold as they are creeping up in cost monthly it seems due to lack of supply. Unless your jet is trashed I don't think the energizer kits are worth it unless you have 2 grand to blow.

For now fix whatever is wrong with it, don't worry about the paint or interior first, get the gauges all right, look into the health of both the jet and olds motor. Look for bad floor or stringers, get the bottom in as good as shape as possible.

On the upholstery: your seat frames are likely rotted or beginning to rot. Build new frames or better yet get fiberglass ones if you are starting from scratch .

I learned the above stuff the hard way, as did most of the guys on here.
Listen to them, the older the better, especially guys like Tom w/ jbp.

Brendella jet has good info on wj pumps.

    FIND TIMINATOR's OLDS ARTICLE!!!!!!!!!!!

A good place to look for used jet parts is either SOCALJETBOATS.COM or Jet Boat Performance in Atascadero, Ca. What ever you do don't rev that Olds for to long unless the rebuilder installed oil restrictors, at least a ten qt. pan and an oil cooler. One more thing use a water psi regulator too.
