    Default need help on cam for my 496 bbc

    ok this is my first jet boat im building a 496 big block it is 60 over with alum heads ret port 2.25 intake with 188 exh i have to 550 carbs from alstate carbs on a tunnel ram and im stuck on the cam well can i run a mechanical flat tappet cam in a jet boat what i have now is a mechanical cam specs are 585 int 595 exh ilft dur @50 on int is 245 and exh is 258 will this cam be ok my boat is a 1990 carbbeain 21ft stock jet can any one help i need it my name is joe here is my cell if any one wants to call 1 815 651 6219 thanks

    Back on track...
    Joe, think about ditching the "flat tappet" and go with a roller cam/lifters.
    Reason...even if you get lucky and break the cam in w/out losing a lobe/lifer the below could still happen...
    This is a flat tappet that for what ever reason stopped spinning, luckily it was the end of last season and I was pulling the engine anyhow.
    If I didn't catch it...it would have been a MAJOR problem this season.

    i have never had any issues with flat tappet cams.love them run them alot,but you seem to hear alot of horror stories.please someone move this so this fella can get the help he needs.
