Default thank you to who ever you are..

Cause you are obviously smarter than me...

I had asked a month or so ago what else i should do to my engine and boat while i had the engine out... Some one (I forget who) says replace the starter.. Thanks for the advice pal but no thanks.. I have replaced everything on that damn boat, eletrical wise, except the starter and alternator.. Well i find a short today on my starter and amid trouble shooting, this short set my alternator on fire. more like a puff of smoke really.

So since i totaly ignored your advice i now need to most likely yank that dang motor again to get to the starter. I am convinced this boat is god punishing me.. For a split second while smoke was rolling out of the alt i thought for a second "Burn bitch Burn!!".

2 steps forward one step back.. and yes I plan on going thru all of my eletrical connections and diagrams. Just picked up new quick disconnects and a new crimper to go thru all the wires...

no boat goes together easy. They kick and scream the entire time causing problems everywhere you turn. Fortunately, once you have them put together the way you want, they are much easier to take apart & re-assemble.

Soooo you defiantly know what the problem is.. I just don't want to see you pull it 2 more times. Fwiw I'd hook the new starter up without bolting it up(or wouldn't it not be grounded then) 1st , you may have pinched a wire or??? Does everything turn over easily with the plugs out by hand(with a wrench on the balancer bolt) Just trying to help.

Unfortunately, I'm a pro at removing the engine. And Pump too
But ,,, I'm loving life now. Simple speed bumps.

My headers have turned into a headache for me today. After welding extensions on the collecters to shorten the hoses up I took them to the coating shop. He called me this morning to tell me that when he started stripping them there eat up. The first welder didn't weld them like I told him and they were off so I took them to another welder who had them lining up perfect. So 2 welding bills and alot of running around on my time and there junk. The guy I bought the boat from ran it saltwater some so I should have known that being steel tube lightnings they were probably toast. Oh well I guess I'll call lightning tomorrow and order some new ones. I think I'm going to take the old ones too the deepest hole in the Rivah and bury them

That is the unfortunate part of the "standard" $1800 Lightnings, ceramic-coated mild steel.

They DO make them in Stainless..... and,,,, just like the others, you WILL pay, generally thru the nose.

Yea man.. i ordered a marine starter and Marine Alt.. should be here in a day or so... Gonna just replace them both. They where both old and ratty.. i should have simply replaced them while i had them out but wanted to save a buck.. Its very possible i crossed a wire but i think it was just the starter wires and connections going to shit.. I bought some more ends, a nice set of crimps and starter and alt.. Im going to sit down with my all that one weekend and my wiring diagrams and get it sorted out... its only money after all...
