    Default HEI distributors

    Any of you running one of these in open engine application (Chevy of course) have any problems from the distributor getting wet since it's so close to the back of the boat? Or do they take gettin soaked just fine? Was thinking of changing out my current setup (even though it works fine) to one to clean up the wiring, thanks,

    Never had any problem. If that much gets over the back, it would seem that more serious things were happening.

    Didn't care for the HEI that I ran, The modulator kept going out. Went with msd 6-AL box, with rev limiter, nice set up.

    No problmes here, never saw one get wet but I'm sure it happens. Bet it cant be common

    Look for offroad/4wd. sites, there are different colored boots that go over the cap and the wires exit from the bottom of the boot.. I think that jegs or summit had them too.. TIMINATOR

    I've had real good luck with HEI's Simple wiring and clean. A little bulky! They are limited in the all out running 6000+ rpm unless you add some performance parts but work good otherwise! WT

    I just did the same thing your thinking.. I got rid of all that crap hangin of my engine.. I ended up getting the Mallory "race" HEI dizzy. no vacuum advance. I have not ran it yet, waiting on new wires

    And my wiring is alot cleaner

    A little off thread...
    Never had any problems with mine. It is covered. Runs 5200 all day.

    Thanks for the replies, I've got one coming now, it'll be good to have just a couple wires that go to only the distributor, and not a coil and ballast and such. And I just finished timing and tuning the current setup........
