I think it was Chris who mentioned NJBA. Why weren't they included?

NJBA is it's own deal, all the others were divisions of IHBA, and still are, but under the Lucus Oil Banner. This is good, meaning more resources are available to the racing series, as far a promoters, and exposure to dragboat racing.

NJBA has done it's own promoting, and has done what seems like a big turn around in the last few years.

Lucus will hopefully stabilize the rest of the countries racing venues, that have been struggling for years, as they have been getting dropped for various reasons.

None of the Associations (SDBA, SLDBA, CDBA, etc.) that have entered into the agreement with LUCAS Oil have ever been part of The IHBA ..... They have shared venues/races for points, but, have never been any part of The IHBA and have all done their own promoting and advertising for many, many years.

the only things in your post that's remotely accurate is that "njba is it's own deal", and that this is good with respect to "exposure to dragboat racing". exposure is one way to look at it, but lucas will go way beyond exposure.
cdba, sldba, sdba and kdba are all member run clubs, just as njba is, and are not "divisions" or any part of ihba, nor have they ever been. cdba has co-sanctioned a few races with ihba for the last several years, which both have benefited from. sldba also has a continuing co-sanction arrangement with ihba for a few races. sdba co-sanctioned with ihba for a few races years ago, but that arrangement terminated several years ago.

lucas oil has been a major sponsor of ihba for many many years. this new program goes way beyond just sponsorship.

this is a subjective assumption and your conclusions are wrong because they are not based in fact. if you want some factual bases, go look at annual average participation (boat counts). clubs are dependent on participation for financial sustainability, and from that perspective, it's very easy to see who's doing well and who hasn't, or who is growing and who is declining. the fact is that kdba, cdba, sldba, and sdba were all doing just fine - not getting rich, but not even remotely close to struggling.

lucas has a history of taking grassroots programs like this, and making them huge on a national scale. it's way beyond anything one or two orgs can do with this sport in isolation. a lot of other good people have tried to do something similar over the years, and come up short. lucas has a track record of succeeding at this.

it's my understanding (subjective) that no one ever said the door's closed to njba. it's also my understanding (subjective) that the njba board was buried in elsinore preparation at the time this was coming together with lucas. only time will tell.

Bob is absolutely correct in my opinion as to what Forrest Lucas and his LUCAS Oil can do for Drag Boat Racing ..... For him to even get as far as to have The SDBA to agree to be involved with anything with The IHBA, in itself, is an Accomplishment that should be clearly understood as to how much the man and his orginazation are committed to making our Sport a truely National (and maybe even an International) one.

Regarding The NJBA, I can't imagine that at some point in the not too distant future they won't also include themselves (and sign on to A Common Rule Book w/Common Standards with Common SAFETY Intent) in The LUCAS Series as to not be would amount to them relegating themselves to a purely SoCal "Club" and not (in my opinion) be in the 'Best Interest' of Drag Boat Racing overall ....... Also remember, this is a hard year for The NJBA in terms of race sites ..... First getting Elsinore up and working as a viable venue and then dealing with Lake Ming not being available until construction is completed and Kern County opens it ...... Perhaps, the lack of guarenteed race sites for the 2009 Season is why The NJBA could not be included not on LUCAS' 2009 Schedule ... my 'guess'? ... check with NJBA and the LUCAS Oil Coordinator to see ... I do know, however, and for whatever it may matter that NJBA Rescue is having its 'Say' in the 'Consolidated' Rule Book.

nah jerm, gotta have more sloroast... boats been in tiny pieces for so long i dunno if i can find 'em all, or remember where i put 'em... good thing i got pics, i forgot what it looked like...

just sayin... people shouldn't think all those clubs signed up with lucas because they were all destitute, or lucas was their last hope for survival"... this was simply an opportunity for each organization like nothing else that's ever been presented in this sport. i'm sure njba will do what they feel is best ...
