Heard that Jim Rich was using the CJ72 to pull a boat off some rocks, something went wrong and the CJ72 is now sitting on the bottom of the river.
Anybody hear anything? Hopefully he'll recover it before too much damage is done, don't think he'll be racing tomorrow though...........

I think Jim posts his phone number on his signature, Find one of his posts and give him a call if you guys know him.

I just called him. His boat is sitting on it's headers upside down on the bottom of the river in a strong current. He's looking for help to get him out.

He was pulling a boat from a dock and the guy hadn't un hooked two ropes as Jim pulled away the current caught his boat side-ways when he realized the guy was still tied up he hit the gas and snapped one of the ropes the other rope still had him and let the cross current start filling the boat up.

He said the current was 12-14 mph last night so no one could do anything :(

Looks like he won't be racing today :(

Now that sucks.:|err

That really sucks, is there anyone, or maybe some people to go help him out? I'd be there but I'm 4 hours away at best. Rod, CP, you guys know anyone in that area that you can call? This really sucks

with that current, all you need to do is hook up to the front of the boat somehow and start moving up river. The bottom of the boat will naturally lift and bring it to the surface. The tough part is getting it to the ramp unless someone can get into the boat to pull the plug while it's moving to let the water out.

how deep is the water it's in?

You all might think this is stupid but it could work. I took an old king size waterbed matress and inflated it once to see how big it would get. Before it blew it was about 7 feet tall. I would think that if the boat is upside down and you stuffed a matress under it with an air hose taped into the fill it would do a fair amount of lifting. Just a thought you can buy one for about 40 bucks.

If I had any way to help Jim I would be there by now but I don't so I'm not there, it's kind of funny how one minute people are repeatedly bashing him and then they're wanting to help him get his boat off the bottom of the river, it doesn't make any sense when they're bashing him and it doesn't make sense now that they want to help him after they've bashed him. That's what I meant earlier but didn't type.

Understood....

But there are more than a few whom would give him shit but would jump into the water 5 minutes later to help save his boat. There's a huge difference between the two and for Jim to be helping someone out and get screwed for it just adds to it.

Hell I'd bet there are a few whom would even help Riverracer out. ;)

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who has seen or commented on this thread. Jim and I are trying to do what ever it takes to get the boat back. At this point what we need is a Pontoon boat to hook up to the bow and then we can get the boat to rise. Or highfreeboard boats would help also. The current is very strong and crazy, the current in this area of the river does not change, it is the same strength with 2 units as it was with 5 units. The water is rising quickly as they are beginning to let more water out of the dam. The boat rests in about 8-9 feet of water, the bow is about 2 feet from the surface. The boat is upside down and is resting on the headers. From what we can see at this point, the boat is in one piece, but we can only see the bottom. The pictures show the rest.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd guess that if the bow eye was tied off to a pier or something solid that it would come up darn near on it's own if 6 of 7 people just flipped it over. Gotta tie the people off also so they don't float away.
With a 12 mph current, the boat would most likely lift itself most of the way up.

Please, DO NOT tie any people off. Bad news. Please.

try some truck inner tubes..pep boys kragens autozone checker orielly...stuff them under the deck
you can fill em with fix a flat with a mask and snorkle on..or better yet a portable air tank like you fill tires with...

i 3 seater jet ski might be able to pull it up..could rent two locally..just don't tell them what you are doing..
pulling against the current will do most of the work for you...

look at the bright side...you can still see it..so there is still hope.
i forgot to mention.. the headers are probably holding it against the current... when they unhook, that thing will follow the current...
don't unload it until you are ready and set..

The flow is supposed to drop down to 2 units around midnight. The plan is to get a rope on the bow at that time. Then when the water comes back up we will try and pull the Sanger up to the surface. It would be nice if we had some high freeboard boats there to to help tomorrow around noon ! The current is fast at this spot all the time according to the homeowners in that area. I would really like to save the boat ! Nevada Wild Life is on my tail to get it out. It is not leaking anything right yet ! But it is a hazard to other boaters.

Two boats will be needed to pull that up... one tied to the bow eye, pulling straight into the current. The second will have to have a line OVER the bottom and tied to something solid under the boat, ski tow, engine or something...

Both boats drive into the current with the bow eyed boat pulled tight until the boat comes off the bottom, most likely upside down... The other boat runs parallel with the bow eye boat but with the line slack... once the sunk boat comes to the surface, upside down most likely, the slack boat veers away 45 degrees and tightens his line pulling the boat over right side up... as soon as the boat flips the 45 degree boat drops their line, bow eye boat keeps pulling... the second boat circles around and drops someone into the sunk boat to start bailing and pulling plugs...

Been here, done that... Thanks Long Beach Fire boat and LA County Lifeguard boat...
