I recently traded for a 1975 16' I believe Sidewinder or sidewinder copy with a stuck 455 olds and Berkeley.
The vin is SKJS 1586M75J
Can someone help me figure out if this is a sidewinder or who the manuf. was?
I was able to get it to free up enough to turn over with a breaker bar but there is still something not right in the lower end. I have pulled the heads/ intake and it still is tight in part of the rotation. The in side of the engine so far seemed REALLY clean like it was tanked shortly ago. The weird thing i noticed was all the lifters on 1 head were collapsed and a few on the other side were too but only like 1 or 2 on the other side. When I pulled one of the collapsed lifters out there were chunks of metal in the oil groove. I am thinking the lower end is going to be junk when I get it out. All the pistons move so no broken rods at least.
Your boat was built in May 1975. But there seems to be a slight discrepancy in who or where it was built. Your HIN SKJ indicates it was built by Skallerud marine port Townsend Washington state. Only problem is they only started building boats as of 10/06/94 and went out of business on 07/21/09 but then there is an addendum that it may have been built by a company called WAS ski boats out of Milwaukee Wisconsin no further info on them though. I'am sure if you post a few pics somebody will recognize who the builder was.
I have been out of boating for a long time but boating never gets out of you!
From comparisons to other jet boats It looks similar to the sidewinders but it does not have the "gills" on the side nor the shark eyes but it is a right hand drive. From the motor Id #'s the motor is a '73-'76 motor so it could be the original motor.
