    Default 1/2" of shoe = ????

So if you are told to put in 1/2" of shoe. How/where do you measure this?

    Easy question for some.

put a straight edge in the center of the keel in frt of the intake opening and see how far below that edge of the shoe hangs.a long straight edge makes it easy.

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

Whose notes are you using... 1/2 inch of shoe is huge, and likely going to cause a drastic change in your boat handling for better or worse. Just .040 shim is enough to upset some boats. I'm sure you know all boats are different, you may need to sneek up on that 1/2 inch an 1/8th at a time.

Are you adding 1/2" shoe to an already shoed intake? Are you cutting the intake for the first timie and adding a 1/2", shoe? There are a lot of factors left unanswered here. It makes a difference how far the intake was machined when it was done. It makes a difference how deep the intake is set in the boat. Give me a call. 417-858-8616, I've got a lot of questions for you so I can help.

Yep 1/2" of shoe is part of an entire combination. intake angle loader type shoe depth ride plate angle and nozzle angle.

As recommended by the boat mfg.

I will give you a call tomorow Duane thanks.

When I read the question I was hoping it was a just a generalization and not completely accurate.

Rod I know what you're saying, but as someone asked" 1/2" from what " Is he to hang the shoe 1/2" below the keel or put a 1/2" shoe in it that will be 1/8" up from the keel?

Quote : " .... intake angle loader type shoe depth...."

I'd read that as 1/2" below I guess

I'm confused ?? Hopefully Duane will get him squared away.

i seriously doubt someone told him to hang the shoe a half inch below the keel line.

besides, most folks dont have the tool to accurately measure the biting edge of the shoe in relationship to the keel if the boat has any sort of a dropped keel or bubble on it. you can't just lay a straight edge on a dropped keel.

with that in mind, i'd say he was told to put a 1/2 inch thick shoe in there, and that's not out of the ordinary. my shoes started out at 5/8 inch thick...

no matter what, start out your testing on the conservative side with the shoe as shallow as possible (no shims between it and the intake) and drop it from there as you get comfortable with the boat.

I didn't know how to put it ... but if I ever did figure out how to, it would have sounded like that.
