I have removed the old packing rings and am ready to install the new ones....But I have a lot of white aluminum corrosion in the hole. My question: I know I am supposed to coat the inner side of each ring before installation with anti seize.....Could I coat the outside also so that it (Basically) coats the surface of the aluminum in there to cut back on corrosion? My fear is that then the seals would be prone to spinning with the shaft....Just not sure.

If it wasn't a JE pump, I'd simply pull the suction piece and clean it up then paint it......The only way to get in there with a JE molded-in suction is to pull the engine first (Yikes!!!)

Any help would be appreciated!
