Just picked up a 1978 hawwian Molokai with thru hull exhaust design.... Can anyone help me with info on it, as for pros, cons, things needed or tech tips.... What are it's capabilities in the hot rod sid of things an performance... Thanks
It had a 460, was told it was locked up, as it sat for last 28 yrs in a shop an then it sold to a guy in Montana and then I got it. He took the motor out and started in on it. Results come back cracked. Original owner was from Casper Wyoming as he bought it new in 78. It then went to Sherdian Wyoming to a guy named Dean needing motor work. Dean stored it in his shop since 92, an Cory bought it 3 months ago as a project for his son and him to do. Things happened and I came home with a boat. I have all the original interior and logs and misc things... It's a full stringer an good shape we will see after I put it on the rotisserie an see how things check out on the bottom. If you ask me it's still on the original tires back then as it's on Firestone... At any rate this will be my second build as my first boat was a wriedt exectuive I worked that over and paint and full interior....bit wasn't the flat bottom or speed boat I was looking for... The price as right as well as the litature it came with is amazing within itself! My goal is to work over the bottom and do what's needed with jet drive and hp match combo an any other odds and ends. It will get repainted and another FoMoCo big block is going back in it. Over all it's a sound boat but shall see.... I'm still pretty green but I do all my work myself and any help would be appreciated in aspects I want speed and not a brick with 650 hp but a fine tuned molded brick with 650 hp and taking the extra time to get it 80+... That's my goal reachable maybe, maybe not. Can't get fast overnight but like I said this is my second build and it's progress from the deep vee I started on... I figure 20k in this build I could buy alot of boat for that huh, but I ain't that guy! I build and I learn and I appericate any help you guys can throw my way, thanks
Pump is a berk JC. With paper work on it from 92 an place diverter installed then as well. It's a hydro diverter and new intake as impeller... Either way what's gonna change so everything is matched to it's new set up. I figure the berk is okay to build with or if not I'll put it on my family boat the wriedt and buy something different if it's to result in a better package combo... I will run threw hull headers and remain with it factory just without the logs.
