First off, Hello….new here. Been around a lot of other boating boards for a long time but no info on jets there. Currently own a Fountain 23TE center console.
I have been looking for a hot rod boat for dinner and sandbar runs. I do quite a bit of electronic rigging and basic maintenance for a number of boaters as a side job and have often thought about taking on a project boat. I recently came across this and can pick it up locally very cheap. According to the HIN it appears to be a Miller built in 1976. Mark III is painted on each side. The exterior of the boat is in excellent condition. The interior has been removed but is available to be restored. Structurally, there is obvious rot in the sub floor and it appears someone poured some epoxy over it at some point. There are several bulkheads under the deck. The first (nearest the cockpit) is cracked (See last picture). There was no obvious damage to the hull itself but further inspection may prove otherwise. I think we can assume the stringers have rot and I would suspect the transom as well.
The engine is a 460 Ford that is .30 over. The owner claims it runs but the boat hasn’t been in the water for a few years. It has some corrosion from sitting out in the open. It may be a gem or a turd….
It is a Kentucky boat that has never seen salt and the steel trailer is in good shape seeming to support that claim. He stated he could start the engine.
The owner states the Berkley jet drive was rebuilt shortly before the boat was stored several years ago. He states it is a brass pump. I know nothing about jet drives and without being able to run the boat, it is the biggest unknown. Cosmetically it looks good although the sealant is goobered all over which makes me suspicious of any work that was done.
So…..what am I looking at here? If I purchase this boat, it would be with the intention of making it right. Remove and replace the rot. Probably paint or gel the interior since I live in a salt environment and carpet just doesn’t work.
Lastly, what do you guys think something like this as is would be worth. Say I buy it and it turns out to be more of a headache than its worth....
The HIN is MLL192440476
Asking $2,000 but said to make an offer. Its sitting on the side of an obscure side street so I am not too worried about jumping on it.
Thanks in advance!
Pardon the crappy cell phone pics.
