    Default Oil on valve covers

This is my first jet boat. Is it normal for oil to come out of the breathers and on to the headers and valve covers. This happens every trip out. It happens even when towing. Boat runs great but always cleaning up oil. Any help would be great. Thanks

nothing should be coming out while towing.
while running, its normal for alittle oil to come out of the breathers. headers and valves should not have oil coming out. looking into buying new valve cover gaskets and tall breathers. edelbrock sells all. i had alittle oil coming out from the breathers and bought tall breathers, problem fixed.

Thanks for the help. I have ford valve covers and they take the round style breathers. I may have to change the valve covers to go to a taller breather. I have changed the valve covewr gaskets and sanded them flat. The oil is only coming out of the breathers towing and running. Its not a ton but its enough to have to clean up. Thanks

I had the same problem. I put alittle RTV on the gaskets and they seal good. You can still use tall breathers that are push-in, so no need to change the valve covers. Edelbocks Elite series valve covers and breathers are nice. Do your covers have baffles? Just make sure they do, because it will help a lot.

I would wager that oil while your towing is just excess oil in the breather seaping out while your driving and not actually getting blown out like when you have the boat under power..

Mine did the exact same thing. I bought some new valve covers and tall breathers and no more issues... of course YMMV

While towing is rather strange honestly doesn't seem likley ?? perhaps "residual" from the days driving , a wet and dry compression test and maybe a cylinder leakdown test will tell you a lot (or put your mind at ease) significant oil is not normal a very small amount wouldn't surprize Tom

The oil during towing may be from the run at the lake. That would make since. It sounds like it's new valve cover time with tall breathers. Thanks for help. Everyone is great out here and willing to help out.

If you are using something like those round Mr Gasket breathers, Clean them up real good with carb cleaner and then run a light coating of silicone around the bottom side of them where the top is crimpped over the base part. The oil gets in there during use, and will just keep dripping out while towing because of the bad seal they have.
