    Default Berkeley 12jg v's 12jc

Hi, I broke the impeller of my 12jg, and I am putting in a 12jc a friend of mine is letting me use. I don't much about pumps, was told they are the same, minus the split bowl. Both have the A cut. Is that true, and will my diverter fit the 12jc?

It spit a chunk of impeller out the nozzle, I think the bowl is hashed.

How easy is it to change? Any special tools needed?

I did a C to G bowl swap on mine little while back, so I could run a droop. When I was looking into the swap, I was told the Place diverters for the JC & JG pumps are interchangeable. The diverter off my C bowl worked with the new set-up without any problems, so there shouldn't be any reason why your diverter wouldn't work on the JC pump...

I rebuilt my pump completely and had never done it before. The hardest part was getting the impeller nut off. The rest was really just time consuming. You can print the Berkeley OH Manual from here! You might as well fix it now rather than have to tear it apart to return borrowed parts later.

I must say, you are right. I will have to get a new bowl, impeller before I can do that.

Impellers can have different sized wearrings. So to say they are interchangable could be disasterous. You must measure the wearring in thousandths to compare. Just buy a new impeller and wearring and buy a used split bowl. If it makes you wait to use your boat, so be it. Pat IMHO

This is why I was going to swap out pumps. I am supose to be at Lake San Antonio sept.18-20. I went with out my boat last time and that sucked. I felt relaxed at first, then I felt lost.

I understand now. To borrow the whole pump is better. BUT if it breaks, now you have 2 to fix. your choice, good luck

Very true. I am glad my buddy doesn't care. He wants to rebuild it later on any way. His boat has about 600hp and mine is half that. If I break it, I won't leave him hanging, he is running a totally tricked out 12jg. The 12jc came out of his boat when he bought it.

Thats like three weeks away. Plenty of time to order and replace a impeller and wear ring. If your buying a new one then the stock wear ring will be no issue. The time consuming part of mine was having to have the old impeller machined to fit a non standard wear ring..

I think you have plenty of time to do it right and not pull your pump out twice. However impellers are not cheap.

I think I am going to just put it in and save the money and change the cut after I redo my engine. Only cost the price of a few seals.
