    Default 454 heads

Im rebuilding my 454 this weekend and need my heads done. I got a quote for 265. Is that a fair price? They are 454 oval ports if it matters. thanks

are they putting in valve guides in that 265? if so, that's not bad.

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

That's not much money to "re-do" a set of heads. That can mean almost anything from grinding the 45 on the seats to a complete rebuild with new guides or liners sized correctly, a complete valve job, face the valves, etc. I charge $275 just to cut the seats. Noting more, but that's a 5 angle intake/rediused ex, valve job.
You need to ask lots of questions for your $265.00, and find out exactly what you're getting and why (or why not). Have who ever is doing the work point out to you exactly where on the heads the work is being done...make him explain. If they refuse, take the heads somewhere else. Otherwise, you may just be throwing out 265.00, and if that's the case, throw it my way, would ya?
    Just tryin to help.

Are they large oval or small oval? If they're small oval, those are truck heads and don't perform very well in a jet boat application compared to large oval ports. I'd check the casting number and find out before I went and spent any money on having them done.
