    Default how much oil in 10 qt pan

    ive got a 532 ford with a milodon ten qt pan plus one for the filter...how much oil should i put in it?ive got 40 psi at 4000 and it drops to 30 when i mash the pedal. is the oil moving to the back of the pan getting airated and causing the pressure drop? any reason for it to be this low(30-40psi)

    Did you measure the pick up from the floor distance ?

    Front pick-up pan ?

    Other than that start with 8 qrts in the pan.

    i have had the same problem with the same pan. but mine droped to 10psi. it turned out to be a problem with the pan some people are having. i returned mine and milidon stood behind there product and took it back. put a different pan on, pressure has been rock solid since. here is a thread about it on a different forum http://www.fordmuscle.com/forums/all...4600-rpms.html

    if you didnt measure the pickup to pan clearance that may be your problem.. some guys are damn near sucking the pan being so close causing some psi issues. Im runnin a solid 60psi at 10t and 40 at idle. ive got that same pan myself.

    Did you use the Milidon Oil Pick up?? It's a must. I've had a lot of the same problems with those pans on a Ford.

    We have had "issues" with this particular pan on Fords under similar circumstances , just curious where your oil psi "tap" is (eg at the back top of the block?) suggest you take a "hard guage" measurment from above the fuel pump for comparison Tom

    (oviously too late but I like to put the pan at the "attitude" it will run at and Solvent fill it to the bottom of the windage tray

    Had the same problem with a Milodon pan. Lost oil PSI on long hard runs. Bought a pan from tom at JBP and problem went away.

    thank you all so much...first stop ,a different gauage installed above the fuel pump....how low is too low (pressure).iive seen as low as 30 and never higher than 42 ...how close to a melt down am i?

    The general rule of thumb has always been 10 lbs for a thousand rpms but I personally prefer at least 25 at idle (hot) and no lesss than 45 at speed (standard volume and presure pump) Tom

    how do you measure the distance between the pickup and the bottom of the pan when the pans on the engine and the pickups inside the pan....also could my milodon pan be modifide to correct this problem.also anymore thoughts on the amount of oil.ive read alot of diff oppinions from 7qts to 11qts

    Mine is a BBC, but it sounds like the same problem. I tried everything...more oil, less oil, checked the pickup, the oil pump, everything I could think of. Changed pans and now I'm holding 80 psi (best before was 65, and would drop to about 25 right at 4000 rpms)
    I've got a custom made pan from Stef's now. Not cheap but I'm happy with the results. I cant say for sure what exactly was causing my problem, but I believe windage was holding/pushing oil up the wall of the pan, and it wasnt returning to the sump very well. It would do this on a run-in stand, so it wasnt G force sloshing the oil around.
    A few calls to Milodon during this too, without any answers. It sounds like they sell a lot of these pans and claim to not have any issues. I'm sure their pans work good on many engines, but mine didnt seem to agree with it.
    I'm also sure that Milodon would have taken my pan back, but I accidently punched a small hole in the bottom mine taking the engine out, so I didnt bother trying that...
    I think a good thing to maybe try would be a custom fit crank scraper too...

    A small "pea size" ball of modeling clay or even play dough on the edge of the pick up screen , some WD 40 in the base of the pan in the same area. Set the pan on (gasket installed) snug the four corner bolts and then remove and measure the thickness of the clay Tom

    re modifiying the pan , I'm not so sure the pan is as much of a concern as the length and size of the Milidon rear sump Pick up ,As I recall you might gain by an increase in the PU tube ID and a Cobra Jet style pumpWe build more Chevys than anything else Josh knows this answer I'll consult later Paul Kane may have some input or Ideas Tom
