    Default hydraulic diverter pump alternatives

Are there any alternatives to the normal trim pumps that come with hyd diverters? I bought a used diverter with actuator but no pump. I sure as hell am not going to pay what they want for a new pump. $400 pump for a $1500 boat dont add up.

What about using a power steering pump? Yeah I know the drag on the engine would rob a few horsepower. Im not worried... im not setting any speed records as it is. The pressure relief could prob be lowered as I cant see the system needing more than 50 psi or some small number like that. Then set up a 3 way valve to actuate the diverter.

Or what about getting another cylinder (actuator) and doing a lever actuated master/slave system similar to a hydraulic clutch? There cant be that much force to move them, they can be cable operated by hand.

Or a source for a cheap self contained pump?

You can find them for $100-$200 all day here on the boards, keep it simple makes for a better day on the lake. The Place units, differ from the basic Bennet pump, the Place version has an extra set of soleniods.

You could use a power trim pump from an outdrive like a Mercruiser - if you happen to find one cheap. The one modification you will need to make is lower the pressure relief or you will burst the plastic lines or blow a seal in the cylinder. (don't ask how i know that!!)
