Default How Often Do You Change Your Oil?

There Are Lots Of Threads About Oil Types and Filters But Im Curious How Often Most People Change Their Oil. Ive Been Told Every 20 Hours. But I Usually Change Mine 3 or 4 Lake/ River Trips And I know Thats Nowhere Near 20 Hours Of Runtime.

How Often & How Much Run Time Do You Put On Your Oil?

Depends on how hard I was on it that day.....lol If I go out and beat the shit out of it all weekend long (two full days) I will change the oil monday when I get home from the shop.

Oil is cheap, engines are very expensive!

When I was racing changed engines and oil every race, two day regatta 4 heat at 5 mile = 20 miles so every 20 miles.

I can see when racing changing oil often, but for most of us, do you really think it's necessary to change that often? The new synthetic oils and oils in general should hold up better than it did, say 10 or 15 years ago. Oil technology has come a long ways since the days of the first multi-grade oils were first intorduced. Raching, is putting a big demand on parts that are already stressed to the limits, so you wouldn't want to think some as cheap as oil was the failure of the engine.

I think using good oil, in the type of boats we take out once a week and play with, an oil change, a couple times a year is fine, unless you find water in the oil, then you need to find out why and fix that problem. Just my 2 cents.

About once a year in the boat.

Every 7-8000 miles in the trucks.

Sounds about right to me. I had to change out the oil in my boat after one day on the water because I had the header water turned on too high and got water in the oil.

Usually 3, maybe 4 times a season. Figured with a limited amount of oil in it (5qt. pan) it would be better to have fresh oil in it as often as possible.
