Default Lifeline vs Regular Ski Vest

What are the benefits to wearing a standard lifeline (non-parachute) vest as opposed to a regular life vest? Both keep you afloat if you get wet. Just wondering if the investment is really worth it.

Lifelines are designed for racing and approved by all the racing associations. They are built to withstand high speed impact with the water. Standard jackets may fail in a high speed impact and are not built with the same durability as a Lifeline.

I thought their racing jackets are USCG approved? Their website says that the pleasure ones are not but no mention that the reacing jackets are not.

Not racing in any sanctioned body just river but I always wear my ski vest when I put the hammer down and want to be safe. Thought a lifeline would be a good idea.

Lifelines are not CG approved....CG approved jackets is not what Lifeline is in the business of. CG approved jackets have to be easy to don in the water and a Lifeline does not meet that requirement. Pretty sure I heard something about a high cost to getting CG cert and has never been a need for Lifeline.
