    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

12/01/09 - Lucas Oil Products is proud to announce the formation of a new drag boat sanctioning organization, The Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series. Beginning in 2010, the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series will offer ten National events which will be televised on the Speed and Versus channels. Team Lucas Operations Director Mike Chastain stated, “The televised series will include thirteen 30- minute episodes on the Speed channel and four 1-hour episodes on Versus, reaching an audience of more than seventy fi ve million subscribers. This is probably the most exciting time for the sport of drag boat racing, and Lucas Oil Products is equally excited about establishing this positive direction for the future of the sport.” The National Series will be comprised of the Top Fuel Hydro, Top Alcohol Hydro, Top Alcohol Flatbottom and Pro Mod classes.

In addition to the ten National series events, the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series will play host to 40-plus co-santioned Divisional events with the Columbia Drag Boat Association (CDBA), Kentucky Drag Boat Association (KDBA), National Jet Boat Association (NJBA), Southern Drag Boat Association (SDBA) and St. Louis Drag Boat Association (SLDBA). Heads of State of these sanctioning associations recently met with Lucas Oil offi cials to solidify a single set of race rules and to lay the foundation for co-sanctioning agreements, making for a smooth transition into this new structure.

In addition, Ken and Patti Dollar have accepted full time positons with Lucas Oil Products to serve as Series Director and Offi ce Administrator, respectively. “Ken and Patti have been involved in the sport of drag boat racing for many years in numerous offi cial capacities and will be a valuable asset in the success of the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series. We are very excited to have them on the Lucas Team”, stated Mike Chastain.

Construction also began on November 23rd for the expansion of a purpose-built drag boat race track at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri facility that will be stateof- the art, with onsite camping, sky boxes and numerous other amenities for the racers and race fans alike.

Lucas Oil Representatives will issue a National Press Release at the PRI Show in Orlando, Florida on December 11, 2009.

For more information please call Ken Dollar at (830) 265-4790 or (951) 870-6381.

Note that The Lucas Series only benefits the Pro's & Pro Mod guys ..... Sportsman ... The Bracket Guys are left to their various associations and local clubs like NJBA, etc..

We here in Arizona are pretty much left out in the 'cold' if we stay in the sportsman classes as the haul to association/club races is a 'fair' distance and expensive to attend races regularly ..... especially with no significant prize money to potentially help offset expenses.
There are quite a few others of us that have competitive boats that are asking some questions about all this.

Don't get me wrong, I think this Lucas thing is in an overall sense good for drag boat racing ... the TV exposure and all for the Pro's ... but, it really doesn't, in its presently proposed form do much at all for the Sportsman Classes which are the Heart & Soul of the Sport (those who really pay for the various promoters & associations to pay for the Pro's to show up to 'make the show').

Just an old hard head's opinion ... I do think Forest Lucas and his Organization could, and should do a lot more for the Sportsman than what appears to be in the works.

Again, just my opinion ... which is never humble.

As I posted over on the V-Drive Section:

"Yes I posted first over in the 'Jet Section' ... and then again here ... To try and keep others informed about what's going on as I think it's in everyone's interest who is involved in drag boat racing to have the information so they can make their own decisions as to their racing programs next year and, in the future ..... as many of us are right now given our forseen budgets."

If you have a problem with what I've posted, why don't you contact me directly and talk with me in person rather than post such as the above which misdirects focus from what's important here ... my contact numbers are readily available so, avail yourself of them if you feel the need.

P.S.: As anyone that knows us will tell you, we do Race ... and when we chose to be at the track, we're competitive ....... in the past it's been in UBFJ & PE ..... in the future, I'm bored with bracket racing ..... I'm sorting out where we go given this new Lucas thing and all.

I'll leave my original post but will add that my perspective is quite different being in the Mid-west. And I do not know what effect it has on folks out west. I hope it is not as bad as I have heard. it would be very unfortunate to leave so many great racers or potential racers with the short straw. But if indeed it does, I would bet somehow it corrects itself. Maybe not imediately but it will have to.

I agree, if the Lucas Drag Boat Series is successful in 2010 as it seems to be presently going together, I do belive that, in the longer term it could well benefit us thoughout the nation.

My guess is that there would ba a possibllty of getting one of the sanctioning bodies to run rces in AZ. Currently, The only AZ races for IHBA were the 2 a year at chandler. I hope with the right TV and promotion the sport will be able to grow and will then provide the potential for spomeone to actually be able to pay the bills of racing by racing. What a concept.

"I would try UBFJ at Bako.Lots of Competition lately."

'Been there, Done That' ..... Already have our NJBA UBFJ High Points Championship, not interested in spending the money to travel, lodge and feed Crew to get another ..... especially when when we built a motor to conform to the Rules and, the Rules get changed to allow for unlimited C.I. so that people could get more Hp to compensate for their inability to make a boat work within the existing Rules ..... Nope, not interested in that kinda 'stuff'.

That doesn't mean we won't come over to the NJBA once (unless we're Banned because of my comments here) or, maybe twice next year ..... we will if their clocks are the only ones we can get to within a reasonable distance ....... we're going to need some clock times to see if I'm going in the right direction with what I'm doing ....... The atmosphere @ NJBA has changed considerably over the past number of years to where it's not as much Fun as it used to be to tow over and Race ..... one case in point, last time we were over in '07 the boat arrived on another rig before I did ..... what did I find, we'd parked just about at the Ming out ramp with hydro's because our Crew was told our normal pit spot (on 'jet row', where we'd pitted for years) was reserved for some 'club' ... I guess a sub set of the NJBA ... which we definately were not a member of ????? It really wasn't that so much, I'm not that petty, as it was the demeaner and attitude toward us of those we had helped in the past by being honest on our hardware setups and what explicitly we were doing ..... the sneeking up under our boat (well documented by digital photographs ..... I was curious so I set an infrared setup ..... gentleman camped next to our pit confirmed identies, pointing individuals out the next day) when all anyone had to do was ask and I would have been fine with their looking (most wouldn't have known what they saw, but, that's a whole different topic) .......

So, enough ..... do we come over to NJBA ????? or, go to SDBA (longer haul, but, hospitality is great) or, go up to the CDBA (near where my son, his wife and my grandchildren live) .............. Just some of the things I'm thinking about ... as well as some other things to do with the Lucas Series ......

When & Where we decide to Race (which we will), the Black Boat, maybe with some white, will be where ever ....... No Big Deal ... certainly isn't for us.

Some pretty bold statements being made here. For the record the two fastest jets in UBFJ are still 632 CI and less. Lots of new boats with less HP going faster.

I'll agree the parking situation can and should be handled much better than it currently is. There is a ton of space and people just assume that, oh this is "MY SPOT" so you have to move or you can't park here..... That's total bullshit not to mention childish. Grow the f*ck up people.

As far as people taking pictures of other people's hardware.... fock who cares, everyone's boat is different and just because someone has hardware type A doesn't mean it will work in another boat. Some people get pretty weird about this stuff.

1/4 miler, I'd encourage you to come back out to bako next year. Last two years have seen quite a few changes from 2007. The 8.0 bracket is huge! and the addition of Super Eliminator, (typically a 30 boat field) makes for plenty of competition.

As far as the LODBRS is concerned I'm very anxious to hear more details are in store for 2010 season.

1/4 miler it sounds like they are building a new track in your back yard.

1/4 Miler, maybe you should take the lead and organize some drag boat racing in the AZ area. There's racers next door in NM also.

Regarding the "spies" checking out your setup, maybe they're trying to find out what not to do

    Just sayin'
