Sounds like you got the short end of the stick on your "rebuild" I'd think seriously about calling whoever did the rebuild and demanding a refund. That is BS, any shop worth it's salt would step up and take care of this.

While I'm sorry to hear about your bad deal, I'm sure Jim Brock would hook you up with whatever you need, Ralph can vouch for his work. Shoot me a PM and I'll shoot you his numbers.

Hopefully you'll get 'er back together in time for the Tom Papp deal next month.

Its unlikely you have the tools to measure that wear ring area. If its a berkeley just take a look at it and see if the hard anodizing is still there, thats a starting point anyways to see where your at. If its worn there are tricks to make a wear ring fit in there to salvage the suction pc, they dont always work if its badly damaged. If you have the tools, go ahead and measure it.

At minumum it sounds like you'll need to sleeve the bowl like you said and either have the shaft repaired with a good hard chrome or replace it with something with hard chrome on it. It also sounds like the you may need an impeller or depending on the damage it can be turned down and if it will cleanup it could be ran with an undersized wear ring.

    Hope that helps.

I just got around to pulling the bowl and impeller off the pump...after only 4 weekends on the rebuild.

The wear ring came out with the impeller, there was only about 1/4 of the wear ring insulator still remaining (wear ring has been spinning with the impeller) The impeller pilot that fits into the wear ring is pretty beat...the bowl seal was still on the shaft after I pulled the bowl off, and the bowl bushing near the seal was loose...got that out with my finger...I'm putting the next one together myself.

At the very least I'll need a new wear ring and need to machine the impeller, probably sleeve the bowl where the bushing goes and either sleeve or replace the suction housing...again.

Does anyone have spec on the diameter of the bore where the wear ring fits? What about the diameter of the bore where the bushings fit into?

    I'm frickin pissed

I can go to the shop and get all the specs for you. It would be best if you gave me a call so I can get you all the info you want the first time. I can do this anytime as I live close to the shop and don't sleep much.

    Sorry to here

I always had good luck with the ultimate wear ring

Just saying, now that its apart cant hurt to try one

I understand there is more than just a wear ring that went wrong in the pump but at least it gets rid of that 2 part wear ring, I always liked the way the ultimate wear ring just popped into place and stayed there.

Give Duane a call I am sure he has some that will fit your needs

They worked great for me in my Daytona at over 1000hp and I think Jungledave that bought my last boat is still using one if not the same one I had in it. If he reads this he might chime in.

The scope of the damage, sounds like excessive run time on the trailer. Even the smallest amount of run time on a dry pump is a noticable difference on the water.

Really? Do any of us here sound, or come off as THAT ****ING STUPID? The carnage that was caused would take more than a few hours of high revving dry running to get this bad. Did you bump your head today or something?

Well for starters there are lots of people who feel trailer running is just fine, and have done so and continue to do so. This is a forum, question and answer type for the hobby. If you don't like my post fine I have no issue with it.....just saying
