It just depends on how fast you want to go. Flat keel boats don't typically load the pump as well. It will be fine at lower speeds, and I don't know at what speed it will likely be a problem. Maybe be a nordic owner will chime in.

No comparision to the Daytona, other than looks, Nordics are flat keeled, and heavy lay-ups. To make them run big numbers, you have to hardware them, and add big HP, still nowhere near a daytonas performance.

If you have a keel put on it, it will perform as good as any daytona with the same work put into it,I had a 79' Nordic pickle and it ran 90 with a flat keel with minimal hardware changing with about 800 hp.

Its very easy to do if you know what your doing, there is definately a science too doing specific things to tune the bottom of the boat for race applications but for the river its not as technical.

mike, if you wanna stick 800hp in it and bust 100, it better get a keel put under it. my nordic would run 84-85 with a flat keel , race weighted and only @550hp. its was a fun boat, but not something to be a contender in unless it had the keel modded.

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

i have a 78 daytona with about 500 hp and runs in the mid 80's, you need to play with the set up to get the right performance out of the boat. I still have more room to play , my pump only has about 25lbs of pressure, i plan on droping the shoe more and some pump work. hoping to be 85 or better all the time.)devil

    Default Flat Keel

When the Daytona was first introduced it had a flat keel and all of speed records were set with the flat keel. When Nordic splashed the Daytona they made some changes to the center keel the most significant was the outside edges of the center pod were dropped to form a concave effect. What this did it made more lift hydodynamically on the center keel and the Nordic actually ran lighter on the water thus harder to load the pump. The flat keel will plane faster but have a problem keeping the pump loaded on the top end.For the lake the flat keel will work fine but for optium performance a rounded keel is in yor future.
