    Default Rochelle Craft?

hey guys, new to the board and i just bought my jet boat about a week ago. it is a 1978 Rochelle Craft open bow 22' with a 460 and jacuzzi jet. this isnt my first jet boat, my previous one was a '76 hawaiian with a 455 olds and berkley.

i have a few questions though, i have been searching all over google and cant really find anything on the rochelle crafts, does anyone know if this is a good quality hull and the history of the brand? also, i dont really know much about the jacuzzi's, good pump or bad? it does say golden eagle on it.

    thanks, dylan

    Default Welcome to the madhouse

I dont have anything on the rochelle craft, but i believe that the golden eagle is a version of the YJ jacuzzi, which makes sense for a heavy hull. It is an axial flow pump, and the impeller is more like a fan or prop than most. It wont push your hull to fast, but it moves more mass, thus making your accel faster.
Boating is nothing like cocaine, boating is much more addictive and results in bigger parties!

I saw something recently on a Rochelle. I can't remember where it was though. Got pics of your boat?

EDIT: Found it. Doesn't help you much but at least you know there is 1 more out there from that manufacturer.

If you pump is a Golden Eagle YJ that diverter you were asking about in the FS section will not work. It is for a WJ pump.

I've only seen one other Rochell and it was the same hull as Last Mohican posted for you. That's a copy of the Omega. Everyone copied that hull in the 70's. It was the first production open bow low profile boat built and a big seller for all parties. Commander built this well into the late 90's as did Hardin. At Hawaiian we splashed it but not until after we took orders for it. We offered it for sale at the same boat show that Omega was premiering it. Schuster had someone buy one at the Omega shop and brought it back to Hawaiian. We re-did the interior, popped on some Hawaiian emblems tags and put it in the boat show. lol Took orders on a boat we had no molds for.

My dad had one for 20 years, he loved it.

I may be mistaken but, I believe Rochelle was built in Oklahoma City.

I bought that POS!!! It will be a total redo for sure. Seems to run good though.

You are right, the were built in OKC. One of my very good friends father, Joel Rochelle built them. Went to the shop a few times and watched them being built when I was young. He passed away about 3 months ago. My buddy Rick Rochelle still has a couple of them in Las Vegas where he lives.

That boat in Olney looked like a decent deal to me. Looked like the original gel. Post some better pics of it.

    Hey Dash,
How's the Rochelle coming along? For the Golden Eagle Jet, check out CP Performance and the "Energizer Kit" they have for it.
I have mine almost stripped to the hull. Gonna start glass work soon I hope.

My old man had one for a bit, it was an Omega, but it wah a Calypso? it was a good boat, SBC far real good for an inexpensive family cruiser, it beat the shit out of us running it across Havasu in the late 70's-early 80's! lol can you say "AIRBORN"! haha

Dash 71121: I have an 1980 Rochell Craft open bow 460c.i. Bearkley pump. I have had it for many years and am the third owner. You can find a lot of things on the internet but I cannot find any information on the history of the rochell boats. All I have been able to find out is they were made in Oklahoma and they also had a model just like mine that had a spoiler or radar fin behind the back seat.

HAY Dash...I just bought a 79 Open Bow...odd to hear your's has a Panther Jet in it.....did someone swap it out...?
I understand that the Rochelle Crafts only came with 460F's and Berkley's...However, having said that the original owner of my boat ordered his with a 454.
My Dad way back was an authorized dealer to sell these, he's passed now so I can't ask....I will check his shop next time I go up and see if he has any info laying around...he was a Pack Rat...hehe

I had a 78 openbow when I lived in OKC. There is a place called LCK marine that knows all about them.
The owner still has some of the molds that were used to build the original boats. They are really nice people. It is a very small shop behind his house.
It has been several years since I was in okc so I dont remember names sorry.
