Default Trying to take out motor........

I'm in the process of trying to pull my 460 out and can't seem to get it to slide forward. My old boat had a 460 w/Jacuzzi jet and I'd just lift the motor about the mounts and slide it forward off of the shaft at the pump. This one's a Berkley and I've taken off the bottom half of the connection (clamp) at the pump, but it won't slide forward off of the shaft. Am I missing something? Do the two angled bolts (on either side of the name plate) have anything to do with it? The Jacuzzi was pretty much exposed and made it easy. Thanks in advance for the help.

I would lift the rear of the engine a tad more to clear the bearing head flange raising the front of the engine even more, there is a pretty good chance the splines are stuck, try using a dead blow hammer or mallet and rapping the yoke a few times while trying to pull it forward.

I have also moved the engine from side to side to get them to free up, good luck...

edit; Also, if the yoke was greased recently, it could be vacuum locked, try shooting some grease in the yoke if it has that option to push it off the shaft...

Try taking the mount plates loose from the engine (to clear) , reduce the lift and pull the motor out straight forward Tom

It is easier if the u joint can flex in the desired direction, like up.....If the u joint is angled @45* it can bind up on the spline. 90* is desirable.....Ray

GOT IT. I guess it was just plain stuck. Used a dead blow, wiggled it, and finally just pryed it forward through the little oval hole over top of the u-joints. Now that I think about it, I may have done that same thing a few years back the first time with that other pump. I'll clean the hell out of it before I put it together, hopefulley that will make it easier in the future. Thanks for the help, didn't want to break something.

Hey MM, how's it going? Signed on a few days back and didn't see any sign of you. Looks like HJ is gone too? Is it possible that he ran out of questions? Regarding the boat, I sort of got trapped into it. My buddy (from Henderson, NV) parked it at my house about a year ago (without a cover), so after trying to keep it out of the sun and other elements all this time (mostly unsuccessfully), he told me he's in a real financial bind and wants to sell it. So I figure instead of cleaning it up for him and helping him sell it, I'd just give him the money he needs and keep it for myself. If I'm gonna do the work, might as well reap the rewards, right? Anyways, it leaks oil and just looks like hell so I pulled the motor to 'freshen' it up a little. Hopefully I'll get it done and meet you at the river soon.

Cool....thanks. That's another part that I don't remember on my Jacuzzi. I know that Berks are considered better, but that Jacuzzi was so damn easy.
