    Default Flood!!

I got a 24 Hour notice to evacuate my farm due to a flood warning. First time in 25 years.

Normal level of river is 15 feet below the deck. Expected level 30 feet. It sucks!

It is summer here in South Africa, rainy season, and we already had 3 times our annual rain fall. It has been raining non stop the past week.

Good luck. Here in San Francisco area, the 20'waves are washing out cliffs and threatening 2 appartment complexes. The rain has still not brought our lakes up to their correct levels yet. I would like to hear that we are no longer in a drought for a secomd time in my life. I hope your home stays safe. I know how evacuations are and you never want to leave. Good luck. You will be in our prayers.

Good luck to you in South Africa. Thanks for the geography lesson.
Wasn't sure where it was and I had to look it up. Looks like a neat area
    (minus the flooding that is).

Here's a shot from Arizona just north of Phoenix. Usually dry, hot, and sandy
    with zero water anywhere.

Looks boatable now. Photos courtesy of Virtual Jeep Arizona.

Is this the area you're in? Judging by the names it looks like it must've been
a big dutch settlement at one time?

I am about 120 miles from the Vaal Dam - the second biggest man made dam in ZA - My farm is near a town called "Orkney". Beautiful place, I don't even lock my doors when I leave to go to town.

    Tom,

No crocs. In Za you only get them in rivers flowing West to East. The biggest wildlife in the river is catfish - 30 - 50lb. We had a Hippo escape from a friends game farm once. The people were scared Sh#tless. Had to be shot. The biggest danger here is drunk "weed wacker" and PWC drivers.. About 2 miles from me is a guy that keeps lions and cheetas. You can year them roar at night. Sounds like they are a couple of feet from you. That is nice.

Here we are in North Peoria (Deer Valley Road & 75th Avenue) where the New River wash sits dry about 300+ days a year.

The best things in life aren't things!
