Default What Thrust Bearing Do You Like ?

I have seen quite a few different thrust bearings over the years. It seems all will fail as I have seen that too. Now IMO the best way to protect a thrust bearing is to grease it after heavy use or before you put it away from your trip to the river. I don't know any other way to push the water away from the ball bearings. I also think it is a good idea to flush the grease before winter storage. What I mean is if you use Lucus Red & Tacky #2, it is red. Now what I do is squeeze in grease till what comes out is a good solid red. I also rotate the engine when I do this to help ensure I get as much of the contaminated grease out as I can. Some think this is overkill, some think it is not even necessary. I just hate to see people spend money on a pump that could have been prevented.

Now as far as Thrust Bearings go please state way you like the bearing you voted for, and why you dislike the others.

    Thanks

This should be an interesting thread! I have no vote as I have no perfeered preference. However I have had the experience of knowing how much damage a failed thrust bearing can create. blaahhh

I have always used Steyr, made in Germany..never had any issues at all. FAG also makes a nice bearing.

Actually I think I was saying max rpm or 5gal of E85, don't really remember. Damm good lookin boat though.
The funny thing is today I was looking for my original bearing that came in my '76 B pump, that thing is and still good. It is a fully caged ball bearing unit much nicer than what I have been seein the last few years. I pulled it just because it was old.

I really would not think (I know, there I go again LOL) that the brand would be too important, the reason is the bearing is built to meet a specification. There should really not be any major differences in the reliability, but then again, almost all thrust failures I have seen were caused by other elements, not necessarily bearing quality..

Then again, I don't build a zillion pumps a day either.

Well being I am in the F**K every other country in the world mode. I am going to see about the NDH 5307s and if they have 3307s and what the difference is.

I need to find out some info on the NDH bearing, we have to support the US companies in today economy.

Read my reply ! I replaced it once and I did not need to. I did it for GP. Now as far as other bearings, if not maintained any and all will fail IMO. Read first post. I have had 0Thrust Bearing failures on any of the pump I do, that I know about. Last season sucked bad and we did about 10 pump rebuilds. The year before we did about 40 rebuilds.
