    so what do these big tanks like ? (I have searched and read many other threads) Has anybody tried a set back, droop, rideplate and shoe, etc.? Looking for most efficient set up. Thanks.

    The GlenCoe is running right at 55mph, check the mods done on the pump. I am looking for a used Dom or AT Rock Grate with the angled pieces welded in.

    I am looking to get my pump rebuilt and am interested in these mods also....my boat is a 22' spectra-style cruiser. Also heavy! Does ride good though. What will it take to get this thing closer to 60mph? HP is obvious

    Negatory on the setback IMHO, you will not get a Spectra hull to "fly", so keep it level in the water, the hull will ride heavy because it is heavy...

    I would recommend a quality loader and a later style Place Diverter...The loader should not be allowed to dig too deep (maybe 3/8" to 1/2" up from keel).

    I doubt seriously a 20' cruiser could benefit from a rideplate, but a little more Wheaties could never hurt...

    As far as the droop, I doubt a full droop would do squat, but maybe a small droop could help with out of the hole...And would help compliment the Diverter (later style again, it has a small ride surface on the underside)..

    60 MPH should be realistic, much more would require a lot of grunt...My dads Spectra 20' was a 58 MPH ride with a good running Olds, as long as the wind was blowing on the back of your head...LOL

    I have ridden in a twin turbo BBC powered Spectra that impressed me as far as ride quality and speed, but I think it was still under 65...Sounded bitchen.

    My hull is heavy as well....When I had a 455 (mild cam newer diverter) got on a plane quick. Now I have a 460 and I added a preloader as well as adjusting my diverter to get the same respose as the olds. I tried a level one loader grate but felt once I was going for a bit there was some drag. I believe a mild stroker kit will help but I do miss that olds....

    Default Spectra 20ft

    I have done a lot of spectra boats, as they were made in burbank ca, witch is right next door, and my long time shool friend ran burbank marine, the spectra dealership. they can be made to run 75mph 509 chevy, just did a 466 ford, runs 68 mph, in the process of doing a 462 olds alum. heads right now, a well massaged pump, not a stock rebuild, maybe a inducer if the funds are there,a simple ramp grate is fine, no need for ride plate unless you want to go with a big motor and a lot of HP, a droop will help lift the boat up out of the water, i have even used the old long droop and it works, a place diverter is a must. any questions give me a call !818-890-1867, Jim Cyclone speed & marine

    i have a spectra with a blown bbc,my pump is set back with a loader,a shoe and ride plate,inducer,either a stainless a or aa impeler,hardened aq shaft,droop with place diverter,i took the vain out that is inside the droop for better flow,its a blue printed race pump,took alote of tweaking on to get it were it is now and could probally use some more,but it pops rite out of the hole and takes a set like a race boat and is a great ride,its probally in the mid 90's

    We have a customer we've been helping in VA that has a 20' Spectra running 95 mph with a big 1-4brl carb Ford motor. Tried to get him to get on here and talk about it, but he says he doesn't do much internet stuff. He's running the bigger 10 1/2 Dominator pump, shoed intake/ride plate, Snoot and Hi-Helix impeller. I think he's got some pretty good HP, but don't know exactly how much. I'll ask him.

    PS; He just sent me this message;

    "bought my spectra new in may of 76, speed then 57 mph, speed now 95.5 mph, no blowers or nitrus.just a ford with 1 carb, and a lot of pump work. Harvey"

    That must be one big Ford & pump to get that Spectra 20 into the mid 90's! Please get more info & pics of his setup!

    Here's the answer I got back.

    "600 ci ford ,bore 4.610 stroke 4.5, never had it on the dyno. am running a single 1150 dominator Q F T. ford C heads , solid roller cam, Berkeley Shoed intake, HTP loader, straight Snoot w/ 10 degrees wedge, ran 95.5 mph last year with all seats in and 1/2 full tanks. NO jet-o-vator, no droop, no nitros, no blower.no rideplate, 93 oct pump gas."
