Exclamation Need help/advise ford gear drive

I got a ford 460 with a pete jackson gear drive in it and the two small gears in the the dowel that holds the gears is spinning and rubbing into the timing gear cover. What would cause this??? And how can it be fixed?

Put a good double roller on it or a deeper timing cover.

One cannot say without personally inspecting, but it sounds as though the idler gear has galled/fused onto the pin and is taking it along for the ride.

The most inexpensive fix would be to purchase a quality double-roller chain as noted in the above replies. Gear drives have rather speicific applications and my guess is that you don't really need one (unless you are swapping out camshafts and/or playing with camshaft timing between passes at the track).

I bought the engine from a friend and its a 557 ford with all the extras. im thinking when they assembled the engine that they didnt check all the clearances with the gear drive and timing cover. looks like ill be looking for a double roller like sugested but i do like the sound of the gear drive. ohh well
