    Default Wiring Harness

Ok Guy's,I know this topic has been beat in to the ground, but I see no info on this site.So let's talk about building a Wiring Harness.
All the threads on this subject were on Hot Boat and I do'nt know if We will ever get them back.

I am getting ready to start building My wiring for my boat, and I would appreciate any Pictures, diagrams and information that anyone can provide.
What are the acceptable wire gauges.I can get 12 guage wire ,in all the colors ,for free. Is it Ok to use 12g instead of 16g,for most of the wires.

The gauges that I will be running will be Autometer.
    I will have a Tac,Speedo,Fuel,Oil,Temp,Volt.

I know over on the other site,I have seen color lists and some Good wiring diagram's.I need to know all the colors ,and gauge wire ,that I will need.
Thank's in advance for the help.....Hal

12 guage is a little on the overkill side EXCEPT for power, starter and ground. I am using 12 guage on my g-wing. I am going to be running 10 guage for power, starter and ground. I have gotten away with running 16 guage for senders but I dont want any issues.

Well the thing is I can get all the 12g and heavier wire that I want, for free, and in my case free is good. We just do not have the 16g or lighter gauge wire available, in very many colors....H

Heavier gauge wire will not "hurt" anything. It just may be more cumbersome.

I have a link to the color code deal let me find it. Be back....

    >>ok you will find the wiring colors in this thread.

I ran #14 for everything except the power and the ground to the dash. There I used #10. I also put a 30 amp breaker in the hot wire back at the motor between the battery and the dash power wire. I did have problems with a couple of the colors and improvised there.

When i did mine i bought a few MSD wether tight connections. between the dash and motor i have two 4 pin connectors. One of them has all the senders running through it (oil pres, oil temp, water temp, rpm) the other has bildge, fuel pump, starter, msd ign. I then have my main ground and main lead that run to the dash which seperate. Whats nice is that i can pull those connectors and pretty much pull the motor leaving all the senders hooked up. I also purchased two 2pin connectors... One right at the fuel pump connection and one right at the bildge connection. I think i used #14 for just about everything, i want to say i used #12 for my bilge. I ran #8 up to dash, alittle over kill but they where out of #10.

Dont crimp your connections! Soilder everything, takes more time but is well worth it in the long run.
