    Default What are these?

    What are these and what do they do? I have never removed them before because I don't know what they do or what they are for. They sit above the wear ring so my best guess would be that they have something to do with the wear ring, but I dunno. Thank you.

    looks to me like where someone previous has staked the wear ring in the housing

    yep, what trav said, someone staked the ring. bet you'll find damage on the intake somewhere.

    What kind of damage? Like a chipped fin or something? Because I do have that. Look!

    someone prob had a wearring spin or get loose in the housing, so they pinned the next 1, that or they like to run a reallllly tight pump.


    i've always wonder how come someone couldn't make a water hose set-up to inject water into the wearing area for guys without jetaways, so we could run without disconnection the motor.

    i had a fin like that, i trimmed both fins down to match each other then i put a knife edge on both. can't even tell anything was done if ya just glance at it, and my boat is still on rails at 100mph.

    Thats a really good idea. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. But, I'm new to this, so I really don't know. If anybody knows of a reason why you can't run a water injection system on a wear ring out of the water, put it on this thread. I would really like to know if I could do this. Thanks.

    Is it better to do that or try to build it back up with epoxy or resin? Because I have it out of the boat and am planning on doing some machine work to it. Thanks.

    epoxy will snap loose and end up in your pump, not a good idea. i had a loader get loose on me a couple yrs back, knocked loose some flow work i'd done in the suction housing and that flow work jammed between the back of my BRAND NEW impellor broke a blade off, cost me a rebuild and had to redo the flow work.

    I agree with 1 if the intake is out get it fixed right you wont be sorry later!

    I thought about this one time! But doesent the water going through the pump center the impellor to keep from wearing?

    I trimmed the chipped area off of the fins on the bottom of the intake tonight. Heres some pictures of the bottom. How did I do?
